Meet Alana, the We Photographer of UVic’s Me to We Executive Team, a second year Social Sciences student, and a girl with a heart of gold. In her free time she enjoys doing yoga, and Sam Smith is her all-time favourite singer. As for her favourite band, it has to be Vampire Weekend. To top it all off, she was born in Switzerland!
Alana decided to join Me to We after hearing Craig Kielburger’s speech at her first year orientation last year. His words inspired her to want to make a difference, and what better way of doing that than by joining UVic’s Me to We club. She’s found it to be a very rewarding and cool experience, especially with being able to track online where the money they’ve raised has been going. She describes it as a fun way to volunteer and meet new people. She even got to attend We Day in Vancouver this year!
Me to We is participating in a project called Adopt a Village, where the UVic team is fundraising for a village in India called Kalthana. We Scare Hunger is a fundraiser the club did around Halloween this year. They held a bake sale to help support their village, and they also went around to neighbourhoods in the UVic area, collecting canned goods for the UVSS food bank. They’ve been supporting our local UVic community, as well their adopted community in India. The next Me to We fundraiser will be towards the end of the semester around Christmas time, so be sure to watch out for that!
If you’re interested in becoming involved with Me to We, be sure to check out their biweekly meetings on Wednesdays at 3:30pm in the Welcome Centre of the University Centre here at UVic. If that doesn’t work for you, be sure to support their fundraisers, who doesn’t love a delicious cupcake or two?! Show your support, it’s as easy as buying a baked good! Check out their Facebook page, Twitter @UVicMeToWe, and Instagram: UVic Me to We.
Alana is planning on majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology. As for after she finishes her undergrad, she hopes to attend law school. Unfortunately, she can’t predict the future yet, so she’s excited to see what the future has in store for her!
