Campus Makeout Locations: Ranked

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

From least favourite to most favourite, these are the most common campus hookup locations, ranked. I haven’t tried every single one of these, but I’ve tested a fair few and my friends have mentioned their take on several others. Let us know if you agree with these rankings in the comments, or suggest your own fave spot on campus to kiss your hottie. Xoxo!

10. Library. While it’s quiet and might have nice views, odds are the library isn’t sexy or convenient. Librarians or other students will probably have a problem if you make out here, even if you manage to find a secluded aisle. Maybe stick to studying… Or don’t ;)

9. Cafeteria. Unless your campus is unusually gorgeous, your cafeteria is probably not that attractive, and likely doesn’t smell great either. On the plus side: food and convenience. Add food to any good thing and it’ll be way better. The caf can be a cozy and friendly spot, and if you’re hooking up here, odds are it’s because you’re grabbing food on the way to somewhere more interesting.

8. An empty classroom. Not a classroom during class – please. Two girls in my math class make out every single day in lecture, and it’s pretty distracting for other students. Differentials are hard enough without people sucking face in the row in front of you. I’m all for expressing love and I’ve definitely been guilty of PDA, but maybe do it when everyone else isn’t forced to be there? Empty classrooms aren’t the most comfortable places in the world and lack mood lighting, but the sense of risk and taboo-breaking can be exciting. Definitely not a pro tip or anything, but at UVic, Clearihue building is open 24/7…

7. Rooftop. Some campuses have observatories for astronomy students or open-air rooftops. A lot of University of Toronto residences have lovely and secluded rooftop gardens (sorry, @ UVic, but it’s true). If you can get up there, if it isn’t too cold, and if you aren’t afraid of heights, these are adorable locations for a date or to steal a kiss between classes.

6. The campus forest or gardens. A walk and a date combined? Pretty adorable. Campus forests and gardens are gorgeous places to snag some literal face-time with your SO. UVic’s Mystic Vale is mysterious right down to the name, so of course it’s a beautiful spot to kiss someone. That said, there’s nowhere to sit down, and the forests at many campuses are cold, creepy, and dark. At least you’ll have someone there to hold your hand!

5. An event. An on-campus concert, a welcome day, or a fundraiser for your major. You’re probably already excited – what better way to show your excitement than by, you guessed it, making out?

4. Campus landmark. If you’re lucky, your campus has a cool landmark such as a beach, a statue, or a mountain. It’s a unique experience to trek to a near-campus landmark and then just… make out on it. However, it may be a bit of a hike from campus, and there may be lots of other students or even tour groups already there. Campus landmarks might include major-specific locations such as a lab or a theatre, so if your SO is in the same faculty as you, this can be extra cute.

3. A dorm room. If you’ve hooked up with another student within the first year of your degree, odds are it was in a dorm room. Odds are their floormate/roommate(s) awkwardly waved at you guys when you arrived or left, or had a complaint to voice. Beds and rooms with closed doors are ideal for making out and give you privacy when you need it, but dorm beds are squeaky and dorm rooms are small, with textbooks and notebooks laid out everywhere to remind you both that you should be studying.

2. A party. A cheat since it may or may not be on campus (let’s be real, dorm room parties are frequently the worst), but this is a cinematic and sexy place to snog someone. The music, the lighting, the vibes… For these reasons, off-campus parties are among the most likely locations you’ll make out during your degree, especially if you frequent parties where your squad plays games like king’s cup, truth or dare, and spin the bottle. These may feel like highschool games, but they tend to make a comeback by second year. Be safe, respect others’ boundaries, and have fun.

1. The quad. This requires ideal weather – dry grass and the sun on your skin. If you’re at that point in the summer when freshmen are everywhere on campus, prepare for stray frisbees and gawking lowerclassmen. However, if you don’t mind PDA and you want the integral college make-out sesh, this is the perfect place for it. No matter what time of the year it is, odds are the quad personifies your campus and is at least a good place for a quick peck.
