It’s the most wonderful time of the year… Black Friday. The time to buy Christmas gifts for loved ones, or to splurge on some self-care to celebrate getting through the autumn semester. For Canadians, we don’t have a Thanksgiving to look forward to in November, but we do have sales. Here are some Black Friday sales to watch out for in 2021!
- Bath and Body Works
Christmas is a beautiful time of year, but it also smells the best. Do you really love Christmas if you don’t have a candle to match the holiday theme? Bath and Body Works always comes through for Black Friday sales, and we have some predictions. Usually, the whole store goes on sale for various prices. There could be a buy 1 get 1 free sale, or even a buy 3 get 3 free sale (mmm… candles)! The soaps, candles, hand sanitizer (stay safe!), lotions, and room spray are all suspected to be part of a sale that only comes a few times a year!
- Aritzia
Okay, so we know Aritzia is notoriously stingy with their sale prices. Usually, you’d be lucky to get something for more than $5 off an $100 item of clothing. So you might as well take advantage of the biggest sales day of the year, and maybe get $6 off? Last year, Aritzia had sales up to 50% off and every item (yes, even their iconic Super Puff™) went on sale. If you have a membership with Aritzia, you may even get early access to sales!
- Lululemon
Oh, how we love our price stores. But Lululemon can drop those prices on Black Friday so you can get those expensive leggings for less! In 2020, Lululemon had sales on many items so there is something for everyone! And it wasn’t just sales for the sake of it, you can actually find a good deal (looking at you, Aritzia). And not just for clothing, Lululemon’s quality accessories and workout gear goes on sale too, so if your New Year’s’ Resolution is to get back into shape, look at picking up a yoga mat or new water bottle.
- Best Buy
If you’ve been wanting an electronic device, you already know you need to check out Best Buy. The sales on Black Friday are extremely popular so to beat the crowds you may need to get there early or shop online. If you got frustrated studying for midterms and threw your laptop at a wall – no worries! Head to Best Buy and treat yourself. Maybe add in a video game so you can de-stress during finals and not make the same mistake.
- Levi’s
We’re pretty pumped for the Levi’s Black Friday sale so we can get our hands on some cheap(er) jeans. Levi’s has done well in the past, having 50% of selected styles or even 30% off all items for Black Friday. So if you’ve been having 501 envy this autumn, now is your chance. Run, don’t walk!
- Patagonia
So if you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’re from Canada. Here at UVic, we live on a coastal island in British Columbia, and if there is one thing we love over here, it’s Patagonia. The moment you put on one of their fleece jackets, you’ve transcended from regular society. Patagonia, among other outdoorsy brands, has Black Friday sales on all goods. If you need some socks for the winter, or a bag for going somewhere warmer, Patagonia will likely have a sale for you. As for me, I’ll be there before the store opens for another toque.
- Indigo
Yes, Black Friday sales don’t just need to be indulging in clothing and electronics- book lovers rise up! Our wonderful Canadian bookstore has had great Black Friday sales in the past, and, okay, not just for books. You can get all your Christmas shopping done in one go as Indigo has books, toys, clothing, accessories, and home goods all preparing to go on sale.
- Canadian tire
Yet another Canadian staple, Canadian Tire is like Walmart’s big brother. With sales ranging from kitchen devices and home decor to sports equipment and Holiday decorations. If you’re looking for a four metre (fourteen feet) tall Santa Claus inflatable (I mean, aren’t we all?), look no further! If this is your first time away at university for the Holiday season, save money on a Christmas tree! In 2020, Canadian Tire had great deals on Christmas decorations to spice up your dorm.
Okay, so I’ve said this before, but run, don’t walk to these stores for Black Friday. Because what is there to look forward to when finals are looming over us? Obviously, the correct answer is retail therapy.
