Meet Marc Doucette, a hard-working commerce student at the Gustavson School of Business and the director of pre-admit engagement for the Commerce Students’ Society here at UVic. And if that doesn’t make him sound accomplished enough, he will soon be the vice president of student engagement. With all that going on, it’s unsurprising that he enjoys drinking ridiculous amounts of coffee. In his spare time he loves playing basketball and watching Netflix. He also loves any typically ‘girly’ pop music. Obviously he’s a smart guy, but if you weren’t convinced- he knows 55 digits of pi!
At the Commerce Students’ Society, they aim to give other business students the best possible experience during their education here at UVic. Marc became a part of it because of his love for the business program. It’s important to him because he not only gets to experience the program, but change it for the better through his involvement. He highly recommends any business students to get involved! They are always looking for new students interested in making a positive impact at UVic and would like to join. There are tons of ways to get involved, such as attending external business conferences, joining the CSS pre-admit council and volunteering. You can also check out their website, their Facebook page, or their office in BEC 113. Marc believes that the student engagement portfolio is an excellent opportunity with eight possible positions to be filled, tons of possibilities to experience event planning first hand and *hint* an awesome leader! (And hey- anyone who knows 55 digits of pi is probably pretty cool)
As for upcoming events, the Gustavson School of Business Conference will be held in late March. Marc encourages everyone to attend the amazing event as students get to travel to Nanaimo for a weekend of seminars during day and social events at night. Sounds like the dream for most business students!
If you are like Marc and interested in becoming more involved in the business program, definitely check out the CSS. It is a wonderful way to gain experience, meet new people and shape your university experience. Join the student engagement portfolio team and not only get a chance to get to know Marc better and see the awesome impact he will have first hand, but be able to influence it yourself. For now, make sure to say hi to him and ask any questions you have if you see him around campus!
