One day while visiting my grandma over summer break, she greeted me by stating that she could notice from a mile away that I didn’t have a skincare routine. She sat me down and pleaded for me to buy a cleanser, a moisturizer, anything at all, cause in a few years, I would grow wrinkles just like her.

How rude, right? To assume that her fully grown 20-year-old granddaughter didn’t take care of her skin? But in all honesty, she wasn’t wrong. I have spent most of my life getting by with a bit of warm water and soap day-to-day, despite knowing that there are skin care products out there that would benefit my sometimes oily skin.

I arrived back at UVic this fall with a goal in mind to finally adopt a routine, but the fear of sorting through brands, prices, and strange terminology seemed like too big of a task to fit into my already busy schedule. That’s when I was given a sample of  Estée Lauder’s Nutritious 2-in-1 Cleanser and Melting Soft Creme/Mask, and was able to kick-start my journey to having cleaner and clearer skin.

I began my skin-care adventure by researching the Nutritious collection a bit more to learn about the application process, effects, and ingredients of each product.

Priced at $35.00, the 125ml bottle of Nutritious  2-in-1 Cleanser is packed with a wide range of natural, nutrient-rich ingredients derived from pomegranate, green tea leaves, and even cucumber. It’s beneficial to grumpy, oily skin, and works to purify and minimize pores.

After dampening my face with warm water and a towel, I applied the 2-in-1 Cleanser to my skin and was instantly shocked at how much it foamed up right away! The white, soft cream puffed, and puffed up as I rubbed it into my skin, transforming it into a fluffy, marshmallow-like texture. It was an unexpected, pleasant surprise. Not only was its texture fascinating, but the smell was sweet, with hints of cucumber sneaking through. The cleanser felt great against my skin and washed off with no stain or residue.

Priced at $62.00, the 50 ml container of Nutritious Melting Soft Creme/Mask is also packed with nutrient-rich and naturally derived ingredients, working with pomegranate, green tea leaves, cucumber, sunflower seeds, and organic brown sugar. Like the Cleanser, it’s beneficial to oily skin and is also great for boosting moisture and limiting redness.

Once my cleanser had been rinsed off, I went straight to applying the sample Melting Soft Creme/Mask and found myself drawn even more to the scent of this product than the first, as it smelled overly sweet and fresh. The cream itself felt soft and rejuvenating against my skin, instantly blending in without any traces of white. I left it on for 5 minutes as instructed and, when I rinsed it off, my skin had never felt softer. It was a fantastic moisturizer!

Maybe it’s the fact that I have never really done a skincare routine before, or maybe it was just the brilliance of this product, but a clear change had been made to my skin. To the touch, my cheeks felt smooth and soft, not as rough as they were before, and I even noticed a clear colour change as well. Like Estée Lauder’s claims, their Nutritious 2-1 Cleanser and Melting Soft Creme/Mask elevated my previously oily skin and helped to remove redness and roughness.

Along with its skincare benefits, the one main thing that surprised me about this product is how only a small amount was needed to make such a big change. Both the cleanser and mask only came in small samples and were able to cover the entirety of my face. A lot goes a long way with this product! Making the price and effort absolutely worth it.

After finally catching a glimpse of life with a skincare routine, I think I’m finally hooked.  There’s just something so nice about a tender moment of care shared between you and yourself as you apply a healthy cleanser and cream in the morning and right before bed. My skin has been pleading for years for me to look after it, and after testing out Estée Lauder’s product, I will continue to do just that. Enjoying the process of gaining clearer skin along the way.

I began my skin-care adventure by researching the Nutritious collection a bit more to learn about the application process, effects, and ingredients of each product. I also looked into what dermatologists had to say about the brand and found the results to actually be quite positive.

On a skincare review website called Derm Spotlight, I came across a review of Estée Lauder’s skincare products that was medically fact-checked by Dr. Joanna McGetrick, a board-certified dermatologist from Orlando, Florida. This site claims that one of the best pros about this brand is the fact that: “Estée Lauder has quality dermatologist-tested products that are safe for all skin types” (Derm Spotlight staff).

Not fully knowing the full limits of my own skin, this is reassuring to know that these products work for all skin types. If you wish to know more about Estée Lauder’s products, give Derm Spotlight’s Estée Lauder’s review a read. It is a great source to learn more about Estée Lauder’s various collections and the ingredients that they put into their products.
