20 Things I Expect to Hear When I Go Home: Thanksgiving Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Wyoming chapter.

Alright, Thanksgiving is here and it’s finally time for you to get a well deserved break from school. You have a week to just kick up your feet and relax right? Well, sort of. It is inevitable that as soon as you walk through your front door, you are going to be bombarded with various questions and remarks about anything and everything. Here are just a few things that I expect to hear multiple times when I go home.

1.     How’s college life?

Can we just not bring that up? Like ever? Thanks.

2.     You look exhausted, have you been sleeping alright?

Don’t ask questions you already know the answers to.

3. You’re looking a little pudgy…. Have you been working out?

        That’s a negatory, Captain.

4.     Go help your sister clean the kitchen

5.     How ‘bout that presidential election?

*screams* Let’s just put this election in the basement and forget about it. Okay?

6.     Are you ever going to turn off Netflix?

No Mom and Dad, I’ve had this Netflix date set up for weeks!

7.     Please get out of bed before noon

No. Stop. My bed needs me.

8.     When you go back to school you need to find a better job. College won’t pay for itself.

        I KNOWWWWWWWWWWW

9.     Go to the store with your sister, we are out of bread

        Store count= 1

10.  How are your grades looking? Straight A’s?

Lol you guys are so funny….

11.  Help your father make dinner

You said help him eat dinner… right???

12.  Do you have homework over break?

    Yes, but no.

13.  Take your sister to the store, we are out of milk

Why didn’t you tell me this last time?? Store count= 2

14. It is 4 in the afternoon, why are you still in your pajamas?

    I do what I want.

15.  What’s your boyfriend doing for Thanksgiving?

I don’t know, I’m an independent woman that don’t need no man… JK he’s doing something.

16.  Look at how clean the house is now that you’re not living here!

Real life image of my mother now that I’m moved out.

17.  Please tell me you’re not dropping out at semester

    Fine, I won’t tell you.

18.  What are you thankful for?

I am thankful for so many things this year!

19.  You should be thankful that we haven’t kicked you out of the house yet.

You know you guys love me… right?

20.  You need to go to the store again, we are out of everything.

YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Store count= Too many

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!
