Finals week sucks. Period. It seems as if you’re always drowning in a sea of endless exams, papers, and late nights. Staying up late and studying non-stop may work for some of you, but it definitely does not work for me. I have to include little breaks throughout my day to relax and take a break from the intensive workload that comes with college. Movies are a really good way to take this break, without completely wasting the whole day away. Here is a list of just a few of my go-to movies when I begin to feel overwhelmed and stressed during finals week.
-
The Breakfast Club
Let’s be real, The Breakfast Club is an absolute CLASSIC. Almost everyone that I have met can relate to at least one of the characters from this movie. The Breakfast Club teaches people how to be accepting and understanding of others around you. A good lesson for all people to learn within their lifetimes, if you ask me. It never hurts to offer a helping hand to the kid in the library that looks like they’ve been through hell and back.
-
Wonder Woman
Alright, I actually did watch Wonder Woman during the third night of finals week. Why? Because why not! Sometimes you just need to watch the perfect superhero movie to get you through the week. Not to mention, Wonder Woman is an absolute legend. After finishing this movie, I was so motivated to begin studying and to knock my finals out of the water.
-
Harry Potter (all 8 movies)
Inspiration for the Harry Potter movies comes from my roommate. For the past few weeks I would come home and Harry Potter would be playing on the tv every time. Magic, spells, and magical creatures offer the perfect escape from that 5 page, single spaced, essay you have to write. Harry Potter was such a huge part of my childhood, so it is almost like I am taking a step back from the crazy world of college and becoming a kid again.
-
Elf
Elf is a movie you can watch at any point in the year, but if you are finishing up a fall semester and heading into winter break, then it is a MUST. The hilarity of the characters and the importance of Christmas can inspire even the most tired of college students. Hell, it can even make you BELIEVE that you’ll pass your finals.

Anything Disney and Pixar
When you’re down in the dumps and feeling all the stress of being an “adult”, Disney/Pixar movies are the perfect getaway. I always feel more relaxed and refreshed after watching these heartwarming films. My personal favorite is Inside Out.

Forrest Gump
Much like The Breakfast Club, Forrest Gump is a classic. All of the bumpy roads that Forrest encountered never slowed him down, so they shouldn’t slow down you either! The unrelenting positive attitude that Forrest has can easily rub off on anyone in need of a pick-me-up.
