Our profile this week is none other than the gorgeous Maddie McGuire. It just so happens that this Colorado native was the lucky winner of Her Campus Wyoming’s Vera Bradley Giveaway, and as a surprise prize (a surprize, if you will…), she became this week’s Cutie! We simply had to know how she felt about being our random winner. Seriously, if you didn’t know it before reading this, Maddie is definitely the whole package–she strives for excellence in every aspect of life, and does it with the utmost grace. She radiates positivity to the point where it’s pretty hard to be anything but happy around her. We absolutely loved talking with this lovely lady!
As we said, Maddie is the winner of our fabulous Spring Break Survival Kit Giveaway–she won this super cute tote, and says, “I love it! It is so cute and will be perfect for the beach over spring break. And her spring break plans are pretty beachy; more specifically cruise-y, and this time next week she will be in the Caribbean with her best friend and parents! Amazing, right? I thought so. While she was born and raised in Colorado, and “always will be a Colorado girl at heart,” Maddie has a passion for adventure, and has been “lucky enough to have traveled several exotic places with my parents.” From the mountains, to the beaches, “traveling has always been a big part of my life and I hope to continue adventuring to new places around the world as long as possible.”
But it’s not all jetsetting and relaxation for this Wyoming freshman. She’s a petroleum engineer with a passion for math and science. Becoming an engineer, she says, is right up her alley due to several family and friends in the petrolem industry that initially sparked her interest in engineering. Needless to say, Maddie has a strong work ethic that comes truly from within, as she feels strongly about acheiving academic excellence; “I hold myself to quite high academic standards, so that has pretty much always helped and motivated me to do better throughout school.” And while her transition from high school to college has been seamless from our perspective, she thinks “high school and college are pretty much polar opposites when it comes to workloads, so I am still adjusting to all the changes. In order to stay on top of all my classes I am pretty much always studying or doing homework.”
It’s clear that Maddie kicks butt in the classroom, and we had to find out what else she puts her heart into. “I have always been super involved in sports, I played soccer, volleyball, track and swimming in high school, and love each one of them.” She carried her love of sports into college, where she currently is a swimmer here at UW. But her active lifestyle doesn’t stop there; “I love pretty much anything that has to do with the outdoors; hiking, fishing, adventuring. I am a yoga fanatic.” And by now you know that when she’s not adventuring in some far-away place, Maddie is churning out homework–but she does it all while looking fabulous, “I tend to lean toward the Bohemian style. I wear a lot of Free People and Urban Outfitters.” (Plus Vera Bradley, now!) I simply had to know how she kept her hair looking so healthy all the time; “I don’t really use any special products, but I do put coconut oil in it about once a week to keep it healthy and happy. I owe majority of the credit to my straightener though, it helps tame my wild mane most mornings!” As far as overall style goes, comfort is key for Maddie, “it is a bonus if the outfit looks cute!” She wears boho-chic so well so well that I almost asked her why she wasn’t a Free People model already. I didn’t…But, seriously, why isn’t she? It’s basically because she’s too busy hustling, making her goals of becoming a petroleum engineer reality. In four and a half years, she plans to be graduated and living the Colorado dream, “hopefully in a cute little apartment.” We are rooting for you, Maddie, and can’t wait to watch you conquer the world!
