Problems You’ll Only Understand If You Have Long Hair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Wyoming chapter.

I’ve had long hair since the 8th grade because a traumatic haircut showed me how bad I look with hair shorter than my shoulders. I love having long hair because it’s fun to style and it’s how I feel the most confident. I will admit though, it’s a lot of work sometimes and there are moments where I just want to chop it all off. Here are some problems that only long haired ladies can understand.

1) The more hair, the more tangly it becomes.

My brush will actually get stuck in my hair sometimes because of the knots. Thanks, hair.

2) Your hair gets caught in *everything*.

Zippers, car windows, earrings, etc. I could go on for days.

3) Styling it takes a hell of a lot longer than you want it to.

Getting up early and having to do your hair equals a lot of complaining and usually a messy bun.

4) When your hair gets staticky, it takes so much effort to control it.

 Send help.

5) Your hair is constantly in your face.

Don’t even get me started on windy days. The worst.

6) Growing it out takes so long and by the time you get it to the length you want, you have to cut the split ends, making it look like no progress was made.

I hate haircuts.

7) You fly through shampoo and conditioner so quick.

The more hair, the more product you need…unfortunately.

8) The pain you feel when you lay on your hair in bed at night.

…Or the pain when you rest on it in the car, when it gets stuck behind your backpack after putting it on, etc. etc.

9) It’s 10X easier to get food in your hair. I’m not even exaggerating.

The amount of times I’ve looked down to see food on the ends of my hair is kinda disgusting.

10) Even when your hair is up, it’s still in your face.

Long ponytails, man.

Despite it all, I’m going to keep my long hair for 5-ever. Everything has flaws, am I right?
