Ten Albums I’ll Take to the Grave

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Wyoming chapter.
  1. The 1975- I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful, yet so unaware of it: This album is not only by my favorite band, but it’s a work of art from start to finish. The 17-track album has anything from slow, sad songs to fast, fun songs and some pure instrumental tracks that are perfectly relaxing. This band never ceases to amaze me and this album is proof. This album got me through some of my lowest points in life and I’ll forever adore this album like it’s my child. My favorite songs on this album are “Somebody Else”, “This Must Be My Dream” and “Loving Someone”. Give it a listen right away.

  1. All Time Low- So Wrong, It’s Right: This is another one of my favorite bands and though every album has something great about them, this one takes the cake. I was a die-hard Dirty Work fan for awhile, but the longer I stay an All Time Low fan the more I realize that I actually love this album the most. It has the classic “Dear Maria, Count Me In” that everyone knows, but it’s more than that. I love “Six Feet Under the Stars”, “Stay Awake (Dreams Only Last for the Night)” and “Remembering Sunday” the most. This album is timeless.

  1. Bring Me the Horizon- That’s the Spirit: This album is SO. GOOD. I can’t believe how different the band sounds compared to their usual work, but I love it. Tracks like “Follow You” and “Doomed” are some of my faves, but I love every part of this album. The best one on the album is “Oh No”, it sounds nothing like the usual BMTH but it’s so damn catchy I’ll never get sick of it. It provides a variety of emotions when you listen to it and I will always love it.

  1. Halsey- Badlands (Deluxe): This debut album is to die for. Halsey never gets it wrong, if we’re being honest. I fell in love with her when I heard her Room 93 EP but this album is a journey. From the first track to the last, you’re taken on an adventure that makes you feel like a part of Halsey’s world for a little while. She is a queen and this album will always remind me of that. I can’t wait to see where her next album goes because if it’s anything like this one, we’ll be in trouble. If you haven’t heard this album, listen to tracks like “Drive”, “Gasoline” and “Roman Holiday”.

  1. Knuckle Puck- Copacetic: If you didn’t know this already, copacetic means “in perfect order”. This is rightfully so because each track flows into one another, it’s almost criminal to listen to this album on shuffle. The lyrics are amazing and relatable and I’m a sucker for heavy instrumentals. Knuckle Puck is a wonderful band full of so many emotions that I can relate to so well from this album. If you’re feeling angry or down, this is the album for you. Otherwise, listen to it anyway because it’s a work of art. My favorites are “Untitled”, “Pretense” and “Poison Pen Letter”.

  1. The Maine- Forever Halloween (Deluxe Edition): Ah, The Maine. They know just how to get me with every single album they drop. Though American Candy is a close tie with this album, Forever Halloween is my absolute fave. John O’Callaghan just sings my emotions to me. It’s perfect for any mood, thought the lyrics are heavier, the band does so much to connect with its audience and I love it. My favorite tracks on this album are “Love & Drugs”, “These Four Words”, “Birthday in Los Angeles” and “Ice Cave”. Give it a listen if you haven’t already.

  1. Neck Deep- Life’s Not Out to Get You: I LOVE THIS ALBUM. The best thing about Neck Deep is that they have music that reminds you of your worth. They have a heavy, pop-punk sound, but their lyrics are so powerful and uplifting that it makes you feel like you can do anything. This is my go-to album when I’m feeling down on myself and they lift me up every time. If you ever feel like giving up, listening to “Gold Steps” or “I Hope This Comes Back to Haunt You” or “Smooth Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors” (or essentially any track on this album) you’ll remember how amazing you are. As Ben Barlow says, “Hands up if you’ve been left bruised and broken, say ‘I’ll be okay’, say ‘I’ll be okay.’”

  1. State Champs- The Finer Things: This is my one of my favorite bands and choosing only one of their two albums to put on this list was heart-wrenching, honestly. This album wins though, because it’s a classic. It’s the first album the band put out and it’s so true to them and so pure that I love it so much. Their song “Easy Enough” reminded me that I was perfect the way I was and their lyric “find a way to stay in your skin” will always be something I think of when I feel down. My favorite song on this album is “Simple Existence”, so give that one a listen if you decide to check out this album. State Champs are an amazing band and this album reflects that so well.

  1. With Confidence- Better Weather: Once again, this is another album that gets you through the tough times life can throw at you. This Australian band is new to the American music scene, they were just recently signed to Hopeless Records, the same label that All Time Low is on. They came to America for the first time this summer on Warped Tour and I remember hearing the songs off of this album live and knowing this band was going to be so important to me. Their songs “Waterfall” and “Gravity” as well as “Keeper” are my favorites and I cannot wait to see what else they make after this album because this one is gold. I love With Confidence and I love this record.

  1. The 1975- The 1975 (Deluxe): I started with them and I’ll end with them. Considering they are my all-time favorite band and only have two albums right now, I’ll take them both to the grave with me. This album is so much different than ILIWYS but it’s still such a classic. The songs are just as good as those on their sophomore album, but for different reasons. I love this album because of the memories it brings me back to and how much I can jam to it no matter how many times I’ve heard the songs. My favorites are “Sex”, “Head.Cars.Bending.” and “Settle Down”. Don’t sleep on The 1975, they’re one of the most artistic and talented bands out there.
