Season 3, episode 1, “Nosedive” is an interesting comment on society’s movement toward a more digital world. We are all consumed by media messages and it is only getting more intense. This episode makes an excellent comment on what we could become, but also forces us to ask “why?”.
Â
Honestly, have you ever stopped to ask why you post what you do? Or why do you like what you like? Or really what it does to you to be so involved in the media? How about what you give up by living in internet social circles instead of real ones?
Â
Pretty heavy stuff, but the simple plot and readable characters communicate all of these inspiring questions with an entertaining plot. “Nosedive” is a great example of future entertainment. A little education and the encouragement of thinking is a good thing when watching tv, and this show does that without you really knowing.
Â
The characters’ interactions make a personal connection with the viewer. We have all experienced the vulnerability of sharing online, the desire to fit in, and the pressure to keep up, making it easy to put ourselves in this world.
Â
Basically, if I explain anymore, you’ll know exactly what happens so everyone should just go watch this and scare yourself into deleting all of your social media accounts!Â
