ALL ABOUT ACADEMICS
THE AVERAGE UW CLASS
The University of Wyoming has a student to faculty ratio of 14:1. Over 38% of the classes have 20 students or less, and almost 52% of classes have 21-50 students. You’ll find that a lot of your entry level and prereq classes are the larger classes you’ll take. Once you get into your upper-division credits, the numbers drop drastically and you’ll be able to know your classmates and professors on a first name basis.
LET’S TALK ABOUT PROFESSORS…
Most professors will go the extra mile, if you do. Make a point to be active in class, stay after and ask additional questions, and go to their office hours. Not only do students who go to office hours do better in their classes, but when finals come around this can make a difference in your grade. If you get to the end of the year and find you’re cutting it close, you have a lot better chance of receiving extra credit, or a professor bumping your grade, if you actually put in the effort.
FAVORITE PROFESSORS?
The University of Wyoming has a wonderful staff, and there’s many professors to look forward to having. Here are a few of our favorites:
-
“Kenny Thompson, Honors. He just mentored me a lot in my writing and believed in me a lot more than I believed in myself. He definitely helped me understand college as a whole and reminded me not to be so hard on myself. He taught me a lot about how to write at the college level which was a lifesaver.” – Abbey W. (Sophomore)
-
“Professor Downs – he teaches Intro to Theatre, Varieties of Non-belief and Screenwriting. He is eccentric, creative and encourages a person to think outside of the book. A world class professor.” -Caitlin T. (Senior)
-
“Anna Zajacova, Sociology 1000, because you could tell she really loved what she was teaching, and she had a passion for it, which made it easier to learn.” – Alissa S. (Sophomore)
-
“Rhoda Shantz, she teaches food and nutrition classes. She is so helpful, bubbly and personable! I really respect her and love her class. ” – Mickayla W. (Sophomore)
-
“Linda Thunstrom, intermediate microeconomics. She encouraged me to go above and beyond, recognizing the areas I excelled in, and still encourages me even though I’m not in any of her classes” – Emily M. (Senior)
-
“Kent Noble. He teaches business ethics with such passion and grace. His class makes you think differently about the world, and want to be a better person.” – Kaitlyn S. (Senior)
