12 Signs You’re in a Sorority

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UBC chapter.

Generally, I disagree with the classic sorority stereotypes, but there are some things that bond you and your sisters beyond the Greek letters. In fact, there are some things that bond you with any sorority woman, regardless of her chapter. Here are twelve signs that you are part of a sorority:

1. You’re amazing at smalltalk

You can thank recruitment for this one. All of those endless hours of talking with strangers and smiling have made you a pro when it comes to networking, job interviews, and awkward elevator rides.

2. You’re never free on Wednesday nights

Between meetings and exchange, Wednesdays are always spent with your sisters.

3. You’ve tried (and failed) to explain your Greek family tree to someone outside of the system

So she’s my big and her big is my grand big and my grand big has another little so she’s my big’s twin…got it?

4. Not only are you panicking about your grades at the end of the semester, but you’re also stressed about what you’ll wear and who your date will be to Semi/Formal

These are the real questions.

5. You know how to coordinate an outfit that can go from class to business casual to the club

 Thanks formal meetings!

6. You’ve had to explain that your “sisters” are not blood related on more than one occasion

No, I’m not related to 100+ women.

7. You don’t understand when other women say they hate being friends with girls

Girl, you’re missing out.

8. You can always find someone to grab food/workout/go to class/go shopping with

This is one of the best parts of Greek life.

9. You call volunteering “philanthropy”

For you, bake sales and fundraisers didn’t end in high school.

10. Your camera roll is full of “candid” laughing pictures

A Greek event isn’t complete without taking 100+ pictures like this.

11. You’re an expert at DIY crafts

You and your little have matching wooden Greek letters, obviously.

12. A part of you never wants to graduate because you want to stay an active member

But, you also know you’ve also made lifelong friends and no matter how old you get, you’ll always be a sorority sister.
