The First Day Back to School as Told by The Office

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UBC chapter.

Returning to school often involves a rollercoaster ride of emotions. To portray the different stages of emotions most of us experience the first day back, I decided to refer to The Office:

1. That initial boost of energy that the New Year brings, full of promises to be our most productive selves:

I’m going to get up at six and workout then have smoothie, go to class, and do all of my homework right after!

2. …Until your alarm goes off for your first 8am:

Time to play how long can I stay in bed without being late?

3. But then you get excited to use your new Kate Spade planner and fresh pens:

So fresh, so pure.

4. When you find the perfect seat only to realize that creepy frat boy you’re trying to avoid is in the same row:

Out of all 200 seats in this room? Really!?!?!

5. When you expected to chill and go over the syllabus the first lecture but the prof jumps right into an in depth discussion:

Seriously?

6. Or when they do go over the syllabus and you realize there’s five group projects and an individual essay due before reading break:

It’s gonna be a no from me.

7. And you think you’re finally free only to be assigned 100 pages to read before the next class:

Please stop.

8. Walking to the bus after class, your motivation quickly dwindling away:

I don’t know what I was thinking earlier.

9. Looking over all of your deadlines at the end of the day:

That Kate Spade planner looked a lot better when it was empty…

10. Motivation gone, you now start counting down the days till reading break:

When’s the next plane leaving for Mexico?
