If you haven’t been to a concert recently, you probably know someone who has. This past weekend there were almost too many shows to see in the Bay Area. If you didn’t get to catch anything this past weekend don’t worry, I have some recommendations for shows soon to come!
Our very own campus group Superb has recently been pulling out all of the stops. Two weeks ago Father John Misty was on Lower Sproul highlighting his new album that he preformed at Outside Lands Music Festival. This past Friday, Teebs and Tokimonsta hit Lower Sproul with great DJ sets. UC Berkeley’s own JayFunkY from elecTONIC opened for the pair. You could have also caught JayFunkY DJ-ing the Delta Chi homecoming game day on Saturday.
Other amazing shows that went down this past weekend include Jason Mraz and Florence and the Machine. Mraz appeared at our Greek Theatre while Florence was at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. Shoreline is also home to the famous acoustic benefit concert presented by Neil Young every year, The Bridge School Benefit Concert. Be sure to get a group of friends together for cheap lawn seats and enjoy the sweet sounds of Foster the People, Jack White, Gun n’ Roses and many more (Oct. 20-21)!
This past weekend the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival took place in Golden Gate Park San Francisco. If you’ve never experienced this one-of-a-kind music festival it’s a free three-day concert that allows anyone and everything into Golden Gate Park. Warren Hellman, a UC Berkeley graduate, was the mastermind behind this event. Even after his death, his fabulous, free and very ‘San Francisco-esque’ concert lives on.
Don’t worry if you missed a show because this weekend the Treasure Island Music Festival will take place. Headliners this weekend (Oct 13-14) include The XX, Girl Talk, and M83. Treasure Island Music Festival will undoubtedly be more than a fun time. Tickets are still on sale.
