RESET AND RECHARGE: POST-MIDTERMS SELF-CARE TIPS

Updated Published
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

As midterm season winds to a close for most, many are left feeling worn out and not at their best. There’s the relieved feeling of finally being done, but also anxieties that remain such as what grade you’ll get, if you studied enough, or answered a specific question correctly. Regardless, it’s vital that after midterms, you take the time to take care of yourself and give yourself a moment of rest. Here are some ways I like to reset and recharge after midterms.

1. Catch up on Sleep

Sometimes, sleep heals all problems. A good night of rest can do wonders for your mental and physical health. I know that I can’t rely on caffeine forever to keep me awake, as I will eventually need to crash, and I don’t try to fight it. Ensure that you’re not still pulling all-nighters after midterms and taking the time you need to rest. Listen to your body and its needs!

2. Treat Yourself to some Comfort Food

There’s nothing better than getting your favorite bite to eat to reward yourself for all the hard work and studying you’ve done for your midterms. Whether it’s sweet or savory, as long as it’s something you love eating, you deserve it!

3. Catch up with Friends

Studying for midterms turns me into a total hermit, so I love making plans as soon as I can to catch up with friends once they’re done. Hanging out with friends can be a great way to unwind and stay grounded. At least for me, being able to laugh and joke around with my friends also takes my mind off of stressing about the outcomes of my midterms and lifts my spirits.

4. Indulge in a Hobby

After spending hours and hours studying, it’s needless to say that you should give yourself time to focus on something other than your academics, and what better way to do that than indulging in a hobby you enjoy? Indulging in a hobby can remind you that there’s more to life than just studying and give you a sense of accomplishment that isn’t a grade.

5. Do Nothing!

I know it may sound daunting, but sometimes, the best way to recharge after midterms is allowing yourself to do nothing at all. Being at UC Berkeley, it feels like there is always something to do, which can feel overwhelming at times. That’s why I think it’s important to sometimes just lay in bed and mindlessly scroll through TikTok. We don’t always have to be productive! Just rest!

These tips can be a great way to refresh yourself after midterms and help you face what the rest of the semester has to offer as your best self! Remember that your worth doesn’t come from your grades, and it’s always important to take care of yourself no matter what!
