**Update: The gunman, 32-year-old Christopher Nathen Elliot Travis and transfer student at UC Berkeley, has died at the hospital from gun shot wounds from the police. Around 2:30pm today a Haas staff member noticed an individual carrying what was suspected to be a concealed weapon into the computer lab of the building. The staff member then alerted a supervisor who informed UCPD. Staff reported it was the police who then confronted the suspect. According to witnesses, 2 police officers asked the suspect to “drop your weapon” before 3-4 shots were fired inside computer lab.  A law enforcement officer fired at the suspect only after the weapon was brandished. The suspect is said to be the only victim of the incident. It is reported that he was still living as he was transported to the hospital. It remains unclear if the shooting is in any way linked with the Occupy Cal protests. It has been advised by UCPD that students stay away from the area even though the suspect is in custody.
“All classes are cancelled for the rest of the day and evening due to a shooting at the school. All students, faculty and staff are safe.  The suspect brandished a gun and was shot by a law enforcement officer and is in route to the hospital. We will send more details as we learn more.” — an email sent out to the Haas community just before 3:30 p.m. today from Jay Stowsky, senior assistant dean of instruction at the school.
