Surviving Midterms-The Never-ending Cycle

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

Are you done with your first round of midterms? If you answered, “yes,” prepare to study even more! In a few weeks, you will have your second round of midterms. Some of you have probably already started. There might even be a sneaky third. Then, drumroll please…. FINALS!

Let’s Study!

How do you conquer the large number of exams that you will have to take during your time at UCB? I don’t have the answer. This year, as a sophomore, I have definitely spent less time in the residence halls and more in the library. If you’re plugging away hours and hours in a quiet environment where you’ll be judged by some of your peers for using Facebook, YouTube, and other fun sites, you’re bound to get SOMETHING done. So next time you’re bored in your room or you find yourself aimlessly wasting hour after hour, hit the books in one of our awesome libraries. It should be easy to find one that suits your study and aesthetic preferences because UC Berkeley has 27 libraries. Some of them may have certain restrictions for access and weird hours, especially over the weekend, so check out this wonderful site to see which one’s the best match for you. Click me- http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/hours. There are also plenty of other locations to study, indoors or outdoors, on campus and Berkeley in general! It’ll just take a bit of time to find your perfect go-to spot.

Some students studying on a Saturday afternoon in the reading room!

Studying alone can be an awesome idea if you get too distracted by being with friends.

Staying Healthy

When you’re stressed and sleep deprived, which almost describes every college student, you’re more likely to get sick. I know it’s hard, but make sure to get a restful night’s sleep consistently. That cliché of undertaking all-nighters during the perpetual testing season CAN be avoided if you prioritize. If you’re living in the dorms, your chances of getting sick are even greater! My pro tip is to wash your hands frequently and to keep a close distance away from those that are sick. Use your elbow to turn on/off the faucet of the sink and to use turn the door handle with the paper towel you used to dry your hands. Germs are EVERYWHERE. You will be doing your GPA a favor by staying healthy. Last year, I got sick right before finals BOTH fall and spring semester. L It wasn’t a good experience. Let’s be hygienic and hold (clean) hands through these hard times that are midterms and finals. Go Bears!
