THE ULTIMATE WALKING TO CLASS PLAYLIST

Updated Published
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

Like many others, I love to channel my main character energy as I walk through Sproul Plaza and the (way too many) hills of Berkeley’s campus. Here is my carefully curated playlist of the songs that never fail me.

1. “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield

Ever since this song had the ultimate comeback from the hit romcom Anyone But You, I have been obsessed. It is the ultimate feel good song that leaves you with no choice but to sing along. This song is always my first choice on queue, as the lyrics of writing your own story provide the exact energy needed for an early morning walk to class!

2. “Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift

This song is one of my all time favorite Taylor Swift songs by far! The upbeat melody and lyrics are so fun and remind me of being at the beach over summer. Although the lyrics aren’t as happy as they sound, the sense of yearning combined with Taylor Swift’s beautiful voice truly makes this a perfect song to me.

3. “There She Goes” by the La’s

This classic track transports me to a flower field on a sunny summer day, drinking a cold glass of lemonade. I love how catchy and upbeat this song is, and it totally gives Berkeley vibes. I view this song as the perfect tune to wake up to in the morning and enjoy the breeze.

4. “Love Grows (Where my Rosemary Grows)” by Edison Lighthouse

This next song is one of my all time favorites, (I admit I rediscovered it on TikTok). The “Day in My Life” videos with this song in the background were all over my For You Page for an entire week, and I can proudly admit I watched all of them. This song is the perfect background song for the start of a fun but also productive day!

5. “Saving Up” by Dom Dolla

“Saving Up” might be a hot take for a walking to class song, but I had to add it in. I think that the upbeat melody of this song truly makes it such a fun listen, where you can totally lose yourself in the music. I always find myself adding this song to literally every playlist I make, and am counting down the days until I can see it live.

6. “I Love You, I’m Sorry” (Live from VEVO) by Gracie Abrams

Switching to a slower paced song, “I Love You, I’m Sorry” has quickly become an ultimate classic. I truly think this is one of the most beautiful songs to ever exist, and Gracie Abrams’s live voice takes it to the next level. The live edition emphasizes the vulnerability and rawness of the lyrics and truly allows the listener to feel the emotions that Abrams is communicating through the song.

7. “Got Me Started” by Troye Sivan

I have been an avid Troye Sivan listener since the “YOUTH” days, and I can truly say that he never misses. I have been obsessed with his newest album ever since it came out, and this song is one of my favorites. This song was also in Anyone but You, and listening to it always reminds me of how much I loved the film.

8. “Taste” by Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter’s new album is so addictive, I cannot say enough good things about it. Every track is perfectly composed and I absolutely love her style. She is sassy and fun, and there is a song that fits every mood. “Taste” is so fun, and I love listening to it while I trek up the hills around Berkeley.

Listening to music while walking to class is one of my absolute favorite parts of my day. I think music is the most special media form, as it has the ability to mirror exactly how a person may feel in the moment and make them feel as if they are not alone. These songs can always serve as a pick me up or just a supplement to a beautiful sunny day in Berkeley!
