Staying in for Valentine’s Day: Movie and Dessert

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

With Valentines Day around the corner, couples everywhere are planning out dates and trying to find gifts for each other. However, sometimes just making a tasty treat and watching a wonderful movie at home can make for a perfect night. If you’re low on cash or simply want to avoid the crowds this Valentines Day, try making delicious chocolate-covered strawberries and watching the surreal romantic film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless.
Whether you’re with your best friends or that special someone, you’ll absolutely love this dessert and movie combination.

How to Make Gourmet Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
Ingredients:
12-15 ripe strawberries
Half pound of semi-sweet chocolate chip
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 cup of chopped nuts (optional)
Supplies:
Sauce-pan
Waxed paper

1. Heat semi-sweet chocolate chips into sauce-pan on medium heat. When chocolate is melted, add vegetable oil. Stir until texture is consistent.
2. Remove sauce pan from stove. Dip each strawberry in the chocolate (after washing the strawberries). Cover the strawberries just below the stem. Fingers will get covered in chocolate, so watch hands beforehand. After a strawberry is covered in chocolate, set on wax paper. After you are finished with each strawberry, wait for strawberries to cool.
3. (Optional) Before placing dipped strawberries on wax paper, dip in cup of chopped nuts and cover just below the stem. Place on wax paper and wait for strawberries to cool.
4. Enjoy!

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Plot: When Joel (Jim Carrey) learns of how his ex-girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) had her memories of their relationship erased from her mind through a company called Lacuna Incorporated, he chooses to do the same. As he goes through the process of erasing his memories, he recalls all the wonderful moments he spent with Clementine and decides he no longer wants to lose those memories. He fights to keep his memories of her while unconscious.

Why watch it:Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has the sweet tenderness of a chick flick without the cheesiness and overwhelming femininity, so guys will enjoy it as well. The surreal feel of the film adds to the beauty of the movie. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet surprisingly have great chemistry, with Carrey playing serious Joel and Winslet as wild Clementine. Their different personalities balance each other out. The relatable characters and touching theme make this film perfect to watch with your loved one. Plus, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind takes place on Valentines Day, so watching the film on V-Day makes the movie-watching experience much more enjoyable.
