Study Tips to Get You Through the Quarter

Here at UC Irvine, we’re now in the second half of the quarter, and it’s time to start evaluating how we’re going to study for our finals. Here are my tips to getting the best grades I’ve gotten so far!

1. Index Cards

If you have a class that is particularly heavy on vocabulary, this may be very helpful to you. Put the definition on one side and the term on the other. Try and make them yourself so that you can study as you’re making them and again as you review them. I used this for a biology class and got an A+ on that midterm.

2. Color!

This can work for almost any class. Take your notes in various colors. You can color code if you want, but you don’t have to. I personally use colorful pens to take notes so that I can differentiate each slide or each concept, and it makes it much easier to find specific concepts to review and pay attention while you study.

3. A Good Study Space

You’re more likely to study if you put in the effort to make your study space nice! You don’t have to spend a lot of money, but do what you can to create a designated space to study. This will help encourage you to be productive in your studies and get less distracted. I typically like to use nice notebooks and pens to get me to be more enthusiastic about studying, and calming but not boring music is helpful as well. I personally use study playlists that I’ve made myself, but there are many sources to get calming music.

Good luck with the rest of the school year, and congratulations to any graduating seniors!
