Last Monday, the official trailer and posters for the new Barbie movie coming out on July 21st, 2023, was released.Â
Though I, like most of Twitter, have been following the development of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie for quite some time now, here are all the reasons why this trailer and poster release is making me more excited than ever for this film to finally be out.
1. The Star Studded Cast
This film is bringing together stars that I never would have thought I’d see in the same universe as each other. We literally have Sex Education’s Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, and Conner Swindells, Shang Chi’s Simu Liu, Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan, A Black Lady Sketch Show’s Issa Rae, and even unexpected stars like Dua Lipa and John Cena will be starring alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. This cast lineup is genuinely insane and just seeing who is going to be in this film is making me more hyped than I was before for the film to be released.Â
2. The small attention to details
One thing that stood out to me right away as I was watching the trailers were the specific details Gerwig included to make it clear that we are in a cutesy, doll world. First and foremost, I loved how the opening shot of the trailer was Margot Robbie standing on her tippy toes, as this reflects the fact that Barbie dolls have arched feet. I also loved how bright and pink all of the sets we have seen the trailer have so far. It was also nice to see that other characters who are a part of “Barbie Lore” were included such as characters like Midge (and they made her pregnant!) and Allan. Finally, I love how there are many Barbies and Kens of color, highlighting the fact that Barbie can truly be anything you wish her to be.Â
3. Still not having a clue of what is actually going to happen in the film
To be honest, even though I have watched the trailer over a 100 times at this point, I still do not think I have a good idea of what the film would be about. However, with so many trailers these days revealing the plot in the trailer, it is so refreshing to see one where nothing but just the vibes of the movie being teased. Plus, I loved the small jokes sprinkled throughout such as Ken and Barbie not really knowing what being a boyfriend/girlfriend really means or Ken always having rollerskates; I definitely found those a lot funnier than I should have.Â
And those are just a few of the reasons why I am so excited to see the Barbie movie in a couple of months! Can’t wait to really see this movie on the big screens July 21st.
