What is it about Halloween that makes us so giddy? Is it the thrilling, creeping, endless possibilities of people that we can portray for a day? Is it all the cheap Halloween parties that college kids throw? Or is it the commonly misunderstood love affair with everything gory and macabre? I tend to go with the latter. Halloween is a magical time of year, everything that’s usually weird tends to be accepted or at least endured. It’s the time of year that usually makes me feel more myself, more at home.

College is a kick in the ass when it comes to seasonal festivities, what with being so far away from home and if you’re not that far, well then maybe you’ve got other things to do. But you do miss that homely feeling that comes with spending evenings sitting down on the couch with siblings and parentals watching lame Halloween movies.

But this year you’ve found yourself sitting in your room watching “Twilight” on your own. Fun, right? No, wrong. Vampire movies are incredibly more so popular than you think and if you look into it, I’m 100% positive that you can find something better. Do you like movies with great story lines, handsome protagonists and blood sucking vampires? “Dracula” (1931) is the movie for you! But don’t stop there, you can also watch “The Return of Dracula” (1958), or even “Interview with the Vampire” (1994).

“Dracula” is a family friendly movie, particularly soft with the violence and gore and nothing too risqué; a totally classic film. “Interview with the Vampire” on the other hand, is extremely violent and extremely provocative, excellent movie for movie night!

But hey, that’s just one opinion. I commend you if you’re one of those die-hard “Twilight” fans, especially if you’re a proud one. The Dracula Effect is something I have defined as an irrational love for all things vampire and/ or undead. And you’re in luck, because it’s that time of year again.

Music Recommendations: Feeling the Dracula Effect? We may have something more for you.

Death Spells is a recent project put together by Frank Iero and James Dewees, both of which will be touring the U.S. for Reggie and the Full Effect early next year.

This song (above) features one of Dracula’s most popular quotes (bellow).

“To die, to be really dead, that must be glorious!  There are far worse things awaiting man than death.”
