When the Writers Guild of America went on strike last summer, it put a pause on pretty much every current television show. Even though many shows were renewed for another season, they were unable to film, resulting in well over a year of delays for fans. It might be still a while before these shows air their next episodes, but here are a few that are currently in production.
1. The Summer I turned Pretty
Known for its summer releases, The Summer I Turned Pretty’s third and final season was expected to come out within the next few months. However, due to the strike, filming was postponed and any information about shooting was quietly under wraps until Tuesday, May 14. In a promo video from Amazon, the cast confirmed that the third set of episodes will premiere in summer 2025.
2. Ginny and Georgia
After getting a double renewal for seasons three and four in May of 2023, news about Netflix’s mother-daughter dramedy Ginny and Georgia subsided for a bit. Luckily for viewers, an official announcement on Instagram in April revealed that the next season had officially begun production. Here’s hoping that they will film the two seasons back to back so fans won’t be waiting as long!
3. XO, Kitty
The adorable To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before spinoff starring Lara Jean’s younger sister, Kitty, was quickly renewed after the first season in 2023. As a result of filming being in Korea, it makes sense that beginning production took a minute. But, it looks like new episodes are finally being shot, as executive producer, Jenny Han, also posted an announcement for the series starring the cast.
4. Wednesday
Another Netflix favorite, Wednesday was well received by viewers when it came out in fall of 2022. Although it has been a few years, it is good to hear that the next season is actually happening. In a video displaying the names of the returning cast, the streamer disclosed that the Addams family reboot is back in production.
In the day and age of streaming services, it has become normal to expect a year or two wait between seasons. All four of the shows on this list are highly anticipated, so it is wonderful to hear that they are in production and will be returning to our screens relatively soon.
