With Heat around the corner, hundreds of students came out for the Winter Soulstice concert on February 21st. UCR’s annual R&B/Soul concert, put on by the Associated Student Programs Board (ASPB), had BJ the Chicago Kid opening up for Jhené Aiko and Bobby Valentino in this free event at the Hub that was open to all. The line piled up to take pictures and meet BJ, as Jhené Aiko took the stage. Braving the cold in a blue crop top, Jhené performed multiple soulful ballads, as well as a Tupac tribute.
Anticipation mounted as waiting for Bobby V to come on, who could be heard before he was seen, running onto the stage to greet the anxious crowd. He played on the keyboard and performed songs such as “Slow Down,” “Mrs. Officer,” and many others to an audience that could sing along. Winter Soulstice was a huge hit, as a relaxing night in the middle of the quarter filled with slow jams, courtesy of ASPB.
