What an overpriced way to take notes. Are you really going to use it for school? Why are you going to buy an IPad for school? These were all thoughts that were in my mind when I first thought about buying an IPad. I didn’t think it was worth it. On TikTok, specifically StudyTok, people seemed to have their lives put together and a joke went around that it was due to the IPad. At first, that statement seemed very dramatic. It’s just another piece of technology, I already have a laptop so what do I need it for? I have always been one to write my notes with pen and paper. I love buying stationary and having cute supplies for school as much as the next person, but over time I realized I wasn’t using all of that stuff for as much as I was buying. I was also wasting so much paper and money because I was buying so often. Every time I didn’t finish a notebook, I just let it sit and collect dust, no longer having a use for it after finishing the class I paired it with. Having seen my friends who have an IPad, I asked them about it, if it was worth it, and they all expressed the same thing. It was more convenient than multiple notebooks and they felt better about not wasting so much paper.Â
I will admit that the biggest reason I bought my IPad was for entertainment purposes, gotta put my games and shows somewhere other than my phone (running out of storage hurts). While I got it with the intent of mainly using it for entertainment, I started bringing it to my classes when we went back to in-person classes. I realized how convenient it was, especially when considering that I’d have to lug around my 15-inch laptop which only gets heavier as the day goes on (my back is thanking me now). I started using it to take notes, and while I haven’t gotten my whole life together while having my IPad, I do feel more content with the fact that all of my notes are in the same place and not in a bunch of different notebooks which would also hurt my back lugging around all day for 10 weeks. It also doesn’t hurt that I’m not wasting as much paper as I was when I wrote in physical notebooks. I have been using my IPad for school purposes for around 5 weeks now and all I can say is that it truly was more convenient than my laptop and it is working just as well as my laptop when taking notes.Â
As I said earlier, I bought it with Netflix and anime binge-watching in mind, but I actually haven’t been using it for that stuff as much as I anticipated. I really have been using it for mostly school proposes, and it makes me feel better about the money I dropped on it now knowing that I’m using it pretty much all day and every day.Â
While I can’t say that it’s changed my life to the extreme, I’m still not that organized, and I haven’t gotten my life completely together, my IPad is really useful. It also doesn’t hurt that I put much effort into decorating it and picking out accessories, matching ones might I add. If you have the money and think that this is something you’re willing to buy and think you’ll optimize it for school and for personal use, it is a great investment.
