3 Easy Ways to Stay Fit without the Gym

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

A quarter at UC Davis is always hectic- classes, discussions, study groups, work, volunteering, social life, etc. Our busy lives mean our priorities are constantly shifting, but one item that tends to become less and less of a priority is exercise. It’s important for every Davis student’s well-being, so here are three easy ways to fit in that much needed workout!

Biking

Ok, before you start pointing fingers and saying this girl is pointing out the obvious, hear me out. When we’re using our bikes just for transportation, we’re going at a leisurely pace, meaning we can carry on a conversation without trying to catch our breath. That is NOT exercising. You can turn liesurely biking into exercise in a couple ways: First, take a longer route to class and push yourself to pedal faster, making sure you breathe hard. Second, you can just bike around the campus when you have breaks, because it’ll help you relax- and everywhere you turn in Davis is a scenic route. Plus, you don’t have to feel self-conscious since you’ll blend in with everyone else biking. Another bonus is that the bike isn’t a scary piece of gym equipment that we have to try figure out!

The Davis Arboretum

Another way to stay fit through cardio is to explore the beautiful Davis Arboretum, whether by walking, running, or biking along the path, which is three and half miles along.

Blogilates

The third and final way to stay fit in Davis is Blogilates. It’s a life-saver for anyone who leads a hectic lifestyle. Blogilates is a Youtube page founded by Cassey Ho, a certified Pilates instructor. She creates all kinds of quick workout videos, like “5 Minute Ab Express,” and most videos don’t require any equipment. The videos may seem quick, but you’ll be sore the next day. More than that, it provides a great bonding experience with your roommates, because you’re all suffering together. Blogilates is the key to making sure that you do more than just cardio.
