The bralette is about the size of a sports bra but more closely resembles the top half of a camisole. If you’re a B cup or smaller you can totally get away with just wearing a bralette, but if you’re a C cup or up, you should probably wear a real bra underneath for extra support.
Why am I so obsessed with the bralette? Well, for one the name is just fun to say, but on a more pragmatic level, it’s a great alternative option to a camisole or even a bra. Camisoles are great for layering under very low cut or very loose tops, bralettes achieve the same coverage without all the extra material and bunching around the torso, creating a much cooler and comfier look for spring.
Bralettes also come in cool prints and fun colors, adding personality when worn underneath any plain dress or tank top. You could even steal a button up from your boyfriend’s closet and wear a bralette underneath with a few extra buttons unbuttoned. While attending a recent birthday party I wore a bralette under a loose tank top, a few confused boys asked what I was wearing, “is that a bra or a shirt?” they questioned. After I explained the nature of the garment, one gentleman nodded admiringly and declared, “that’s hot”. There’s your stamp of approval ladies.
I have five bralettes and I can’t wait to wear them all spring and summer. The heart print and hot pink ones were purchased at Forever 21 the cheetah one through a sports catalogue, and the floral and lace ones are vintage. Have a happy spring collegiettes!
