We all remember her from the Disney show, Good Luck Charlie, at the least. But, after doing a deep dive on her, Bridgit Mendler suddenly just became my new idol, and she should be yours, too.
So, besides being a child star and rising to fame, soon after the end of Good Luck Charlie and her amazing film Lemonade Mouth, Bridget changed her music away from the Radio Disney-esque music such as Ready or Not or Hurricane, releasing an EP titled Nemesis. And can I say, it is actually really good?
In an interview with Apple Music, Mendler stated it was about a recovery from a heartbreak. Nemesis is a genuinely good EP, with a neo-soul vibe, chill rhythms, and impressive vocal skills.
Nemesis only features four songs, and though released in 2016, one song from it recently trended on TikTok. TikTok users coined her “Bridgit Badu” after hearing the song Do You Miss Me At All from the Nemesis EP. “Bridgit Badu” is a play on words comparing her to a different soul musician Erykah Badu. Erykah Badu is known as the epitome of neo-soul, and for many soul fans to equate the two does speak to Mendler’s reputable talent.
Mendler took a break from releasing music after the Nemesis EP and, to say the very least, put her thinking cap on.
Mendler is an incredibly intelligent woman. After her acting and music work, she went to USC, earning a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology. But it doesn’t end there. Mendler went on to do a graduate degree at MIT, also becoming one of MIT Media Lab’s Director’s Fellows. Her master’s thesis was a big success, leading her to then go on to a doctorate program at Harvard Law School.
BUT THAT STILL WASN’T ENOUGH FOR DR. MENDLER. She went on to co-found a space program, Northwood Space, a company that is building data highways between Earth and space, specializing in satellite technology. She is continuing this business to this very day, with lots of success and respect within her field.
As for her personal life, Mendler married Griffin Cleverly, an engineer, in 2019. What a fitting last name. Just this month via X, Mendler announced that she had become a mother of a 4-year-old boy, whom she was fostering previously but had kept a secret.
An esteemed actress, talented musician, an MIT/USC/Harvard graduate, a CEO of a space company, and a mother?! It almost doesn’t even seem possible, but let it be known that Bridget Mendler is quite literally the poster child of someone who can do it all, and well. She is an inspiration to many, and oh, um, Bridgit, if you are reading this, please accept my LinkedIn request.
