Hitting the ARC: A Workout Guide For Beginners

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Working out may seem daunting, but it’ll pay off in the long run. Here’s a quick guide on how to get started!

1. Set Goals

Ask yourself why you want to start working out. Do you want to build muscle? Do you want to boost your stamina? Setting goals will help you use your workout time wisely.

2. Adjust

Don’t jump into a heavy workout right away. Take it slow. Your body will get stronger over time.

3. Cardio

Running can be exhausting, but it’s the easiest way to build your cardio. Stair climbers and spin classes are also great cardio blasts. The machines aren’t as confusing as they seem. Just press the “quick start” button, and adjust the speed.

4. Muscle Toning

Muscle toning is an essential part of working out. You can easily tone your legs, biceps, and triceps by planking and doing curls. Leg press machines are also useful.

5. Squats

This is where it gets tricky. If you want to tone your butt, use a squat rack. Be sure to put all your weight on your heels. If you want to tone your thighs, put your weight on the front of your feet.

6. Apps

“Fitness Buddy Free” is a fitness journal with tons of preset workouts. It’ll make your journey so much easier!

7. Have Fun!

Find a workout buddy and watch your body transform!
