Inexpensive At-Home Face Treatment Remedies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

It’s finally spring which means it’s time to hydrate that dry winter skin. With the sun shining, it’s important to get back into good habits and rejuvenate your skin! There are many products and services at high-end beauty stores or spas, which are great if you have the resources to do so, but on a college-student budget it can get a little challenging. Luckily, there are many at-home treatments you can do for a low cost that can help oily, dry, or acne prone skin feel cleaner.

Avocado: The fatty acids from avocados will help moisturize any dry skin and restore that hydrated look. Smash one up and rub it all over your face. You can leave it on for about 10 minutes!

Strawberry: This fruit is great for making your face feel fresh. They are acidic and rich in Vitamin C so it can really make a difference in your complexion when used regularly.

Green Tea: Using a green tea bag on your eyes will help with puffiness around that area. Just soak it in some water for a little while and pat it on your eyes.

Plain White Yogurt: Yogurt will help tighten skin and reduce redness because it “cools” your complexion. Use it as a face mask and leave it on until it hardens. Rinse with warm water.

Lemon & Honey: Lemon juice is supposed to help lighten any dark spots. However, since it is very acidic and may burn your skin you can try mixing it with honey to neutralize the sensation.

Gelatin: This is great for extracting any imperfections (like blackheads and whiteheads) from the skin. Mix the powder with some water until it develops into a gel, rub a thin layer all over your face, wait until it dries and carefully peel it off or rinse off with water. Be gentle when peeling because it may cause irritation/ breaking out.

These are just a few of the many at home remedies out there. For the most part, these products will cost you under five dollars and are very easy to apply. Leaving on some kind of face mask for 10-20 minutes every week is a good place to start if you want to improve your skin care routine!
