Introducing a NEW HC at UCD: Her Wallpaper Reverie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Last week my editor suggested I tell all you lovely collegiettes™ a little bit about myself. Suggestions included such pertinent information as my year in school (sophomore), my major (Psychology with a French minor), my hobbies (singing with the Spokes, working at the Coho, bringing the collegiettes™ of UC Davis the latest and greatest editorial news), my favorite ice cream flavor (okay, so I made that one up…). And while it’s pretty undeniable that such information is, at the very least, extremely relevant, it got me thinking about who I really am and what I’m here to do. As much as my major and my hobbies shape not only my day-to-day but my identity as well, the devil, as they say, is in the details. And I’m all about the details.

Details can tell a person a lot more about who you are than the general “about me” facts we so often revert to. I’m from Los Angeles, but more specifically, I’m from a little beach town in Los Angeles that smells like the ocean and looks like something out of a picture book. I love to travel and, in particular, plan on traveling all over Europe when I study abroad in France next year. When I’m not blogging, I am busy enjoying the finer things in life like steaming hot mugs of coffee, riding my bike though puddles, and cuddling with my dog. I love music, fashion, and art, but above all, I cherish how their beauty enriches our lives in the smallest, most unexpected ways–the hum of a simple melody stuck in your head all day long, the thoughts provoked by a profound editorial, the inspiration gleaned from a particularly beautiful photograph… Perhaps it’s not the devil in the details after all, but the angel.

Her Wallpaper Reverie is a celebration of all these details in every form: design, travel, photography, music, art, ideas, fashion, and every other lovely simple thing that inspires me and, hopefully, will inspire you, too. Come here to be inspired, or shoot me an email with your own inspiration. There are no instruments, oil paints, or cameras necessary to be inspired by the beauty in the everyday.

Oh, and my favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate chip.

Rachael Brandt is your typical collegiette. Her free time, you'll find her roaming the CoHo, nourishing her hourly caffeine fix or rocking out at the campus rec center in Zumba class. Rachael has interned at Acosta/Salazar PR firm in Sacramento, CA --working with politicians and interest groups to aide their campaigns. She now spends her days working at the Events and Conferencing Center, in hopes of saving up for the many goodies she hopes to acquire while studying abroad next year. After cultivating an obsession for Her Campus, she opened the UC Davis branch, and now serves as campus correspondant.
