Tammy’s Favorite Desserts in Davis

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

I personally don’t have a sweet tooth – I’d choose salty fries over decadently rich chocolate any day – but even people like me occasionally crave something so sweet it’ll make our teeth tingle from the sugar rush. Here are a few dessert places that are pretty high up on my list:

Yoloberry

Back in 2010, Davis had a huge froyo craze, and frozen yogurt places started popping up out of nowhere. A few went out of business as the years went by, but Yoloberry remained  a local favorite. I’m not a stickler for the new flavors (I always choose original tart), but Yoloberry’s yogurt is sweet and tangy at the same time, which caters to almost everyone’s taste buds! I like that you’re left to choose your toppings uninterrupted by the staff, and if you peek behind the soft serve machines you can actually see them mixing fresh batters of yogurt.

CREAM

Ice cream? Cookies? How about both? CREAM  stands for “Cookies Rule Everything Around Me.” You might have recognized this ice cream/cookie fusion joint after visiting downtown Berkeley. I was beyond excited when they announced they were opening up a Davis branch – no need to drive an hour away anymore! CREAM’s ice cream comes in classic flavors like chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla, with the seasonal blueberry soy or pumpkin spice. They’re all really sweet and creamy – you’ll savor every last bite.

Sweet and Shavery

Fun fact: a UCD nutrition alumni  came back and started Sweet and Shavery . Located  downtown, across from Chipotle, Sweet and Shavery has soft serve ice cream, shaved ice  for an abundance of flavors, and even crepes! I normally get the ice parfait with vanilla ice cream and sour apple and lemon shaved ice. The custard is sweet and the shaved ice is sour (if you choose flavors like mine), and I love the contrast  of the textures and the levels of sweetness. Even the size of the cups are perfect: enough to make you full but not big enough to make you regret eating dessert.

Crepeville

If you’ve never tried one of Crepeville’s dessert crepes then you’re missing out! Crepeville serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but you can order their desserts whenever you want. My personal favorite is the strawberry Nutella crepe.  This crepe is hot and soft, the strawberries are fresh, the whipped cream is firm, and the Nutella is amazing. They close at 11 p.m., so there’s definitely time to grab dessert here.

BAMBU

Specializing in Vietnamese dessert drinks called Chè, BAMBU serves a variety of sweet drinks including milk tea, smoothies, and coffee. It opened downtown near Chipotle this past spring, and business is already booming! I like the variety of add-ins they have to offer for each drink, from grass and pandan jelly to jackfruit and lychee. The quality of the drinks are great, they never taste watered down or have too much sugar! The inside of the store is really homey and clean, I always stay and drink my orders there instead of taking them to-go. If you’re looking for quality milk tea, you should definitely give this place a try.

Konditorei

Konditorei is a quaint Austrian pastry café near the Davis Police station, you might miss it at first glance because it’s tucked away in a cozy residential neighborhood. I love coming here for brunch, they have a variety of pastries that are seriously so fluffy and delicious my mouth just waters thinking about them! They have sweet pastries and danishes that are filled with different flavored jams and creams, slices of coffee cake, cookies, and more. Remember how I said I prefer salty food over sweets? Konditorei is the perfect place for both: they have savory pastries like ham and cheese, spinach and herb, etc. All their pastries have beautiful flaky crusts and soft bread for the body. Definitely worth driving or busing over for!
