We’ve spent the past year living through our favorite movies. Spring break is right around the corner, so why not make the most out of it by living more like your favorite character? Here are four places to travel this summer that are sure to give you main character vibes.
- Skopelos, Greece
-
If you’ve ever fantasized about living in Greece, rocking a pair of overalls, and running around singing ABBA all day, then you should consider taking a trip to Skopelos, Greece — one of the three film locations for Mamma Mia. Known as Kalokairi in the film, this island is located in the western Aegean Sea and is perfect for spending long days on white sandy beaches, sailing through turquoise waters, and of course, taking the Mamma Mia Film Tour.
- Lombardy, Italy
-
If you’ve ever dreamed of spending a romantic summer somewhere in Northern Italy, you should visit Lombardy, more specifically the town of Crema, explored by Elio and Oliver in Call Me By Your Name. This historic town is filled with classic Italian architecture, cathedrals, and the most charming piazza. The town of Crema is the best place to ditch the car service and pick up a bike, so make yourself feel more like the main character by recreating the iconic bike ride through the Italian countryside.
- Bakewell, England
-
If you’ve ever wanted to get lost in Mr. Darcy’s Mansion, you should visit the Chatsworth House, located in Bakewell, England. Known as Pemberley in the film Pride and Prejudice, The Chatsworth House is the perfect English getaway. Stay minutes from the estate and spend days exploring its 1,822 acres. There’s plenty to see and do, including its wide variety of art and gardens and even an afternoon tea experience. Spend the day wandering around the mansion pretending to be Elizabeth Bennett, gazing at the marble statues, and possibly finding your own Mr. Darcy.
- Concord, Massachusetts
-
If you’ve ever wanted to live like one of the March sisters, you should take a trip to Concord, Massachusetts, where most of Little Women was filmed (along with a few other small towns in MA). Rolling hills and rich history fill the town of Concord. Visit Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House, which is the inspiration for the March family’s home and where the author originally wrote the novel. If you wish to recreate the infamous porch scene with Jo and Laurie, you can visit the nearby city of Waltham, where the Lyman estate is located. It’s the perfect place to live out your period piece fantasies.
Whether you choose one of the above destinations or find your own, grab your friends and start planning a trip to make you feel more like the main character.
