5 Spring 2016 Runway Makeup Trends Recreated With $5 Drugstore Products

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Mid-February may not be very spring-like around the rest of the U.S., but here in Florida, we get a head start! Read on to learn how to recreate spring 2016 runway makeup trends for pennies on the dollar.

1. The look: A pop of red lips with bare eyes

From Jason Wu (as pictured above) to Celine, a poppy matte red coupled with light makeup is a fresh statement for warm weather. Choose a warm orange-red for a trendier look or a cool blue-red for a more classic feel.

The product: Jordana Sweet Cream Matte Liquid Lipstick in Cherry Cobbler ($2.99 at drugstores) or Wet n Wild Color Statement Lipstick in Stoplight Red ($1.99 at drugstores)

2. The look: Shimmery doll-like eyes

The models of N° 21 wore smokey eyes with a romantic, springlike twist—heavy shimmer on the lower lashline paired with mascara on the upper and the lower lashes gave the eyes a round, dolly look, youthful and striking at the same time. The key is in color: don’t use colors that are too dark for a day look, and a glitter shadow layered over can amp up the drama for a night out.

The product: Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadow in Bella Purple ($3.99 at drugstores) or Nyx Roll On Shimmer in Onyx ($3.99 at drugstores)

3. The look: Ultra-subtle blue eyeliner

Chanel made great strokes last season with their over-the-top use of blue eyeshadow, but this super subtle blue eyeliner a la Phillip Lim is clean and wearable—it brings to mind blue skies overhead. Line your upper lash line to open up your eyes, or touch the pencil at lower inner corner for something a little more edgy.

The product: NYC New York Color HD Waterproof Automatic Eyeliner in Navy Blue ($2.00 at drugstores)

4. The look: Soft rosy eyeshadow with airy, natural makeup

Spring is the perfect season for natural, Disney princess-worthy makeup, and Dior’s blushed lids (as created by the legendary Pat McGrath) are the simplest way to channel your inner pixie. Reuse your powder blush (a warm pink in either a matte or a pearl) by sweeping and blending over your eyelids.

The product: ELF Blush in Blushing Rose ($3.00 at drugstores) or Jordana Powder Blush in Rose Silk ($1.99 at drugstores)

5. The look: Softly sculpted cheekbones and a glowy matte highlight

Instead of focusing on one strong element, the models of Michael Kors’ fashion week line shone with diffused matte contouring and highlighting. The key to this look is blending—the soft edges bring an overall warmth, perfect for spring.

The product: Wet n Wild Color Icon Contouring Palette in Dulce de Leche ($3.99 at drugstores)
