5 UCF Resources You Need to Use ASAP

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Our university offers so many resources, that it can be overwhelming to know which ones to take advantage on a regular basis. After enjoying these resources myself for the past month, here is my list of must-use resources here at UCF.

1) Career Services

Their mission statement: “UCF Career Services contributes to the university’s goal of offering high-quality undergraduate and graduate education and student development by providing centralized, comprehensive and coordinated career development, experiential learning and employer relations programs.”

My breakdown: Resume critiques, mock interviews with Career Services peeps, practice interviews with employers, KnightLink, career/major advising, internships/externships, and in-person and online workshops. What else can you need? Career Services is essentially your best friend and personal cheerleader when it comes to professional development. Visit them as often as you can! Make an appointment or drop by when you are free.

I got to say. I love them. I visit them all the time, and they are starting to know me on a first-name basis. We are practically in a committed relationship. I want it to last forever.

2) S.E.P.S.

Their mission statement: “Student Escort Patrol Service – A free service of the police department. Seven days a week when classes are in session.”

My breakdown: Not that it really needs much breaking down, but S.E.P.S is AMAZING! It is essentially a free taxi service that you call, and it will take you anywhere you want to go ON-CAMPUS from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. 7 days a week. You get picked up in a larger golf cart with seat belts and a friendly UCF student driver. Like Uber, but free and only for UCF students.

I use them every week to get from one side of campus to the other. Live in Towers and want to go to the Recreation and Wellness Center and it’s after 7 p.m.? Take S.E.P.S.! Unless you want to start your pre-workout (but most of us will choose S.E.P.S).

Their number is on the back of your ID, but if you are curious, their dispatch number is 407-823-2424, or 407-823-5555 during after hours.

3) All Knight Study

Their mission statement: “All Knight Study provides students with a comfortable space to study 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Free Printing, Study Rooms, and Technology are provided to make studying successfully.”

My breakdown: Sponsored by SGA and open 24/7 (not on football game days, though…) AND offers free printing. WHAAT?! Can I get an Amen? YAS. Enough said. Now, go study at AKS and save yourself the trouble by not procrastinating.

Just so you know there are two AKS: One at Ferrell Commons and another by the CFE Arena.  Now you can go study.

4) Writing Center

Their mission sttatement: “The University Writing Center is a campus resource that offers free individual and small-group consultations to UCF community members, for any writing in any situation. Our purpose is not merely to fix papers but to teach writers strategies to understand and to navigate complex situations for writing, both in and outside the University.”

My Breakdown: GRAMMAR GODS! Go to them for all your grammar needs. Get good grades on your writing assignments. DO IT. NOW. Make an appointment. We are all busy people.

5) Student Government Association Resources

Their mission statement: “The Student Government Association is a representative body modeled after the United States government. Through its Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches, the Student Government Association aims to represent student issues and concerns at all levels of university decision-making.”

My breakdown: Awesome and inspiring people. They have so many valuable resources that I wanted to give you quick highlights of them. Their resources include:

  • Free scantrons and blue books at the SGA office with your UCF ID
  • Knight Flight: Free shuttles to and from Orlando International Airport (MCO) for the holidays
  • SGA Bike Share: Borrow a bike for a day or for the weekend
  • KnightLYNX: A safe, free ride to/from East Orlando & Downtown on Friday and Saturday nights
  • Free printing labs: Two locations in the Student Union at the Main Computer Lab and wireless Express Print Lab!

For more information, click here.

Now that you are knowledgeable about the most popular resources at UCF, don’t waste any time and put them to good use. Go NOW! If it’s midnight when you are reading this, you can still go to AKS, so no excuse.

Go Knights!
