Spring break is upon us. As classes cease (!!!) and students scatter all over the globe- or under the covers to get some much needed R&R- an upgraded playlist is essential. Here are some of the hottest tunes of the year you can jam out to while sunbathing, working out, or taking a break between binge-watching episodes on Netflix.
1. “Cheap Thrills” by Sia– Since “Chandelier,” Sia has been dominating the charts with her emotional power ballads. “Cheap Thrills” is definitely one of her more easygoing songs, with a great dance beat and addictive chorus. Also, the message of having a good time while broke is relatable for any financially challenged college student.Â
2. “Work From Home” by Fifth Harmony ft. Ty Dolla $ign– Fifth Harmony is known for their dance hits, and this new single does not disappoint. The ladies tell their men to give them the attention they deserve, showcasing girl power similar to predecessors like Destiny’s Child and the Spice Girls. This is a great one to listen to on a jog or a day by the pool.Â
3. “Freak” by Lana Del Rey– Though released last year, a hot new music video just debuted for “Freak,” one of the most memorable songs from Lana Del Rey’s 2015 album Honeymoon. With her signature Americana vibes, she dreamily invites her lover to “come to California,” where they can “slow dance to rock music.” For those of us stuck in-state, “Freak” provides an escape to the West Coast shores.Â
4. “Formation” by Beyonce– Queen Bey dropped this love letter to the black community the day before her flawless Super Bowl performance and people haven’t stopped talking since. The music video invokes Southern imagery while making strong statements about serious issues, including police brutality and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. “Formation” is perfect for some impromptu choreography on your next girls’ night.
5. “Banshee” and “Rendezvous Girl” by Santigold– Santigold knocks it out of the park with 99¢, her first album in 4 years. “Banshee” is fast-paced and unapologetic, while “Rendezvous Girl” gives off serious 80’s vibes. Both would be awesome additions to the traditional spring break playlist.
6. “Make Me Like You” by Gwen Stefani–Â Newly-taken Stefani sums up the feelings surrounding a new crush in this fun and flirty track. Play it on repeat this break as you social media-stalk that guy from high school who turned totatlly hot.Â
7.“Don’t Let Me Down” by The Chainsmokers ft. Daya– A little EDM never hurt nobody. “Don’t Let Me Down” will definitely be stuck in your head all day. Give it a listen before The Chainsmokers and Daya visit UCF this month!
