You read the chapters, made flashcards, went to review sessions, study groups, etc, but somehow right before the exam, you always find yourself plagued with doubt and dread as that little voice inside says: you are not prepared.

At this point, the panic sets in and performing becomes like running in sand. Anxiety is an all too real villain that creeps up whenever it wants to disillusion you, but here are some ways you can keep focused and stay calm to slay those exams!

1) Listen to music that makes you feel empowered and happy. Get in your zone.

2) Meditate. Relax. Breathe.

3) Visualize the moment after the exam when the deed is done. You did it, that’s all that matters.

4) Eat a nutritious meal and hydrate. Don’t want a rumbling stomach to distract you!

5) Plan a fun activity to celebrate you taking the exam, regardless if you did well or not. Hey, you showed up, right?

6) Talk with a friend, S.O, a study buddy, or even your parents—anyone who inspires you and relaxes your mind. You need positive energy!

7) Give yourself ample time to look over the study guide or notes without any rush. Cramming is a definite anxiety-booster, so don’t.

8) Believe in yourself. You are your best cheerleader; keep your thoughts positive and realistic. If you prepared well enough, odds are, you are going to do just fine!

Shanelle is pursing an Interdisciplinary degree at UCF with concentrations in Biomedical Sciences and Health Sciences, accompanied by a minor in Magazine Journalism. She has a great love for literature, music and nature, and in her free time she enjoys baking, cooking, painting, knitting, basically creating anything with her hands. But her desire to create and explore is often overcomed by her need for hot tea, naps and Netflix marathons.
