AYTG? IMM: THE JONAS BROTHERS ARE BACK!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Are you there God? It’s me, Molly.

THANK YOU THANK YOU A THOUSAND TIMES THANK YOU FOR THE RETURN OF MY ONE TRUE LOVE, THE JONAS BROTHERS.

I have been impatiently waiting for this glorious day since they parted ways to pursue various individual endeavors about three years ago. Kevin’s reality show on E!, Joe’s solo album and tour, Nick’s lead role on Broadway; all talented and fully functional humans separately, but when these three brown-haired beauties are together — my life, the music industry and the world is a much better place. A magical place filled with lighthearted and upbeat pop songs, studmuffins wearing skinny jeans and sweet harmonies that can only be achieved by blood relation and angels.

My unfailing love for the JoBros began in early 2006 when I was just casually watching TRL after school one day. Ah yes, children, back in the golden days when MTV still featured even a little bit of music. These three brothers from New Jersey premiered the video for their first single “Mandy.” I immediately judged their high-pitched pop vocals and unfashionable graphic tees. I was in the seventh grade, on the cusp of my angst stage and at this time, I thought I was cool. (I was wrong.) I mostly listened to Fall Out Boy, Green Day and whatever whiny pop-punk band I could find before anyone else. I was not interested in a boy band. (Fun Fact: Contrary to popular belief, actually no one is too cool for boy bands.)

Then I saw my sweet Nicholas, with his bouncy curls, excited grin and preciously pathetic attempt to hit on Vanessa Minnillo. Suddenly, everything kind of moved in slow-motion. When I looked him in the eyes, I caught a glimpse of heaven. No, he has not ever looked me back in the eyes, but I still have hope! Either way, I was bitten bad by the lovebug. (JB puns galore, y’all.)

Hundreds of posters, four albums and a handful of concerts later — I’m still smitten, giddy and convinced I will marry into the Jonas family one day. I know every word to every song they’ve ever released, I quote their humorous original YouTube videos that no one ever understands, and I become combative if someone ever dares to diss my boys. Yes, this quality may or may not have taken a toll on and even ended relationships of mine. So worth it. I still have a raging case of OJD (Obsessive Jonas Disorder) and I’m still obviously slightly insane. S.O.S.

Finally, my fangirl prayers have been answered and the JoBros are back! Thank you, God, for keeping them awesome. Oh and shout out to the sweet Lord for leaking their new music video early, too. We didn’t have to wait until the ‘Year 3000’ to hear from them again! HALLELUJAH!

Their new song and video for “Pom Poms” is perfect. Catchy funk-pop with a little hint of jazzy influence? Yep, that’s just the way they roll and I love every second of it. Upon hearing this jam for the first time, my face lit up, my toes tapped and I swear in that moment I was infinite. The brothers sound better and look foxier than ever. Nick even displays his fancy footwork in a dance off with a divalicious posse of cheerleaders. It. Is. Awesome.

I’m not even sure what they’re referencing as “pom poms” or what it means to “put your pom poms down for me” but I’m just letting it happen. This song and video display a slightly more scandalous side of Disney’s golden boys, but I think it’s about time. Also, Nick’s hair is buzzed. I never thought I’d be okay bidding farewell to those beautiful curls, but nonetheless, hubba hubba.

The Jonas Brothers make me feel young and happy and carefree and in love. I understand they’re not the most groundbreaking band to walk the face of the earth, but they’re catchy and positive, which we could always use more of in this world. This video is sure to sweep the nation, and I cannot wait to see my favorite studs gracing the covers of magazines, getting bombarded on talk shows about who they’re dating, and providing plenty of more music to stalk and obsess over.

I am the happiest. So let’s “put our pom poms down” and welcome back music’s best brother act!
