If you’re from South Florida and have smelled the landfills while on I-95 this will be your favorite green movement at UCF. The Big Belly compactors are located by the Lynx bus transfer stations in Garage A and I. The four newly installed compactors are the new way to recycle efficiently and conserve space in landfills!
The Big Belly compactors are solar powered to power the battery within the machinery. Its software is able to track the amount of recycled material is held inside. When it is full, it sends a signal that alerts the waste management system know that the bin is ready for pickup.
This was made possible by the generous donation from Lynx! SGA hopes to receive more in the future so be on the lookout for the sleek new machine and don’t be afraid to fill the ones already located on campus.
