I want to start off by saying, there is no shame in my Bumble game. Now, many of you have heard of the dating app Bumble. It essentially holds the same concept as Tinder. If you think he’s cute, swipe right. If you’re not feeling any of the three to six photos he has on his profile, swipe left. But, there are a few major differences between Bumble and Tinder that really set the two apart. The first major difference being that the girls have to initiate the conversation. A second difference is that you only have 24 hours to do so. There is a chance, however, that if you do not respond within 24 hours, the guy can do a time extension of 24 more hours on your match (how flattering!).
Here’s why these two differences make Bumble so much better than Tinder. “The ball’s in your court,” as Bumble says. As girls, we get to be the decider in how the discussion is going to go, because we have to kick off the conversation. So, if you want to follow the lead of the creepy guys all over Tinder and leave a pickup line along the lines of, “I know Black Friday has passed, but clothes are 100% off at my house,” you’re more than free to do so. Or maybe you like to keep it simple and casual with a quick, “Hey cutie.” Or my personal favorite, if you’re digging his “About Me” section, or some thing in one of his photos stands out, you could always personalize the conversation towards that.
The best thing about matches expiring in 24 hours is that if you’ve had a bit too much to drink the night before, and swiped right when you should’ve swiped left, you simply don’t have to initiate conversation the morning after. This means that the match will expire and you’ll never have to see his profile filled with high school graduation photos or his cliché “About Me” that says “I love having a good time, but I’m super chill” again!
So, the moral of the story here is: Bumble is worth the try. If you’re sitting at home, not wanting to go to the bar to have some random frat guy hitting on you, or you’re just looking to scroll through photos of the guys that your city has to offer, download the app and give it a try. Best of luck, single gals!
