If you are anything like me, and I’m assuming you are to have clicked on this story, you hate wearing a bra with a fiery passion of a thousand burning suns. Bras are uncomfortable, restrictive, and the best part about wearing one is taking it off at the end of the day.
Although, a few years back, it would have been socially unacceptable to go out in public without a bra, society has changed since those antiquated views of how woman should present themselves. We have learned, and are still actively learning, to empower the confident woman in our lives.
However, even though I really don’t want to wear a bra, I also don’t want to expose myself to everyone and their mother while out and about. Here is a handy dandy shopping guide for buying clothes that allows you to go sans bra, but still keeps it cute and classy.
-
Patterns are your best friend. When shopping with the intent of never having to wear a bra again, patterns can be such a huge asset. Particularly, busy patterns distract from stray nipples poking through from under your shirt.
-
The darker the better. Light colors are a lot more revealing when you have something you’d like to keep private. Go for the darker colors, especially with thin and skin tight shirts.
-
Bandaids can hide more than just booboos. Sometimes you just can’t resist a thin, tight shirt, but in those cases a bandaid over a nipple can help smooth out anything you don’t want someone seeing.
-
Perfectly placed ruffles. A ruffle that adds a little more extra fabric to an already flowy shirt is just the icing on the cake to a cute, bra-free outfit.
-
Thicker materials. The thicker the material, the more buffer you have. Sweaters and tshirts are thicker materials that I like to gravitate towards when shopping.
-
Layers, layers, layers! Adding a tank top under a cute sheer, lace, or flowy shirt can camouflage the fact that you aren’t wearing a bra.
-
Bralettes are not the enemy. Maybe you are built so that you need a little extra support, or just prefer it, but you don’t want to wear a bra that digs into your shoulders and underboob. Bralettes are a cute, fashionable way to add support while still letting your girls go.
-
Confidence is key. Overall, buy what you like and what you feel comfortable in. You can rock anything you want with the right level of confidence. Even though a lot of girls demonstrate confidence in their bralessness, you may take a different approach. Be comfortable with who you are and how you dress and confidence should follow suit.
