A comeback would be an understatement to describe Demi Lovato’s return to the music scene. Although the 62nd Grammys consisted of many talented performers, I couldn’t stop thinking about one performance in particular…hers.Â
The Grammys marked her first live performance since recovering from her overdose in 2018, and what makes this performance extremely special is the fact that she recorded this song four days before she was hospitalized. The vulnerability illustrated in this performance is too important to ignore. In this song, you can hear her cry for help; her cry for someone — anyone — to be there beside her through the tough times she was facing.Â
Some people might think that with money and fame comes happiness, but that’s not the case. Just because someone’s a celebrity, it doesn’t make them immune to the struggles of the world. Demi Lovato is not shy about the battles she’s faced in her life and the impact those struggles have had on her mental and physical health.Â
In her interview with Zane Lowe with New Music Daily, she revealed how the song was recorded four days prior to her overdose and hospitalization. The significance of this detail to her lies within the lyrics of the song. In the interview, she stated, “I almost listen back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help” while further elaborating that, “and you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, how did nobody listen to this song and think, ‘Let’s help this girl?” While recording this song, she thought that she was getting better, but when you listen to the words, you can clearly see that’s not the case.Â
“Anyone” is more than just a song — it’s a piece of music that people who are going through a similar situation as Demi Lovato can listen to and realize that they’re not alone. Sometimes all people want and need is to be heard. I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us. Am I ready? Probably not. Am I excited and proud? Most definitely.
