We’ve all been through a certain point in time where we can’t seem to find the inspiration to do anything — whether it’s an idea for a project or art piece. I admit that I’ve had my fair share of writer’s block, and sometimes it can seem extremely discouraging. The good news is that I’ve come up with a few tips on how you can get past the stage of head-scratching and onto brainstorming amazing ideas!
My first piece of advice is to take a break. Sometimes when we force ourselves to come up with an idea we can end up with nothing, or even worse, a bad idea. Use this time to immerse yourself in self-care, go outside for a walk, or even catch up on your favorite series. I know that not all of us might be able to use this advice, as some simply don’t have the time, but really, all you need is a little time off. Then you can come back to the task with a much more calm and clear mind.
Another method I try to do is a brain dump. Some of you may have heard of this, but basically, you write down anything and everything that comes to mind on a piece of paper (or a tablet). I usually do this after the first step, when I’m much calmer and have some ideas already (why do you think I suggested going out or doing a few activities?). Give it a try and you’ll be surprised!
Lastly, sometimes inspiration is right in front of us. I know it sounds a bit cliché, but if you’ve ever struggled before, you’d know that sometimes our next great ideas can be right in our view! Take some time to look around and pay attention to what’s happening. Browse a few articles. Look through social media. Don’t be afraid to find inspiration through other influencers as well.
Overall, the creative process is tough and can be a challenge, but know that you’re not alone! Hopefully, you’ll find some of this advice helpful. Never stop imagining!
