As classes end, finals are completed, and my mental health begins to rise again, winter break begins. For me at least, this basically means a month of lounging, watching holiday movies, and pretending my spring course load doesn’t haunt me at night. With the new year getting closer and closer, I also always find myself looking to change things up — starting with my music. Considering my Spotify Wrapped this year, I think a change is necessary. If you’re looking to do the same, here are 8 songs I’ll be adding to my playlist this winter break.

“Secret” – Joshua Bassett

Straight from Joshua’s newest EP, this song is at the top of my playlist. Something about the Josh and Olivia drama makes this song even more enticing, and it’s just too catchy. The slightly angry, indignant feel of this song, coupled with Josh’s (dare I say) angelic voice, creates the perfect song to blast in the car or sing at the top of my lungs in my room.

“I bet you think about me (feat. Chris Stapleton) (Taylor’s version) (From The vault)” – Taylor Swift

Ok so maybe I’m not doing a full 360 from my Spotify Wrapped. Even though Taylor may have been my number one artist this year, this song from the vault is truly one of my new favorites. With Chris Stapleton helping to bring back some country Taylor vibes, this song has just the right amount of twang for your playlist.

“People watching” – Conan Gray

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Conan Gray’s songs have a soft spot in my heart. His lyrics are always captivating, and this song is no different. Co-written with Julia Michaels, this song is the perfect mix of wanting to cry while also singing along (my favorite).

“cry Your heart out” – Adele

As if we all haven’t heard enough about Adele’s new album, I’m bringing it up again. This song is upbeat, easy to sing along to, and has a little bit of an older feel to it. Overall, this is one of my favorite songs from the 30 album, and worth checking out if you haven’t already.

“you right” – doja cat

Planet Her may have come out months ago, but this song has recently been a favorite of mine. The beat is perfect to chill to, while also somehow making me want to dance. This feature with the Weeknd is a must-add to the playlist and is definitely coming with me into 2022.

“Smokin out the window” – silk sonic

If you haven’t understood the hype around Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak’s band, Silk Sonic, this song might change your tune. With its unbelievably catchy lyrics and chorus, you might just find yourself playing this on repeat — and trust me I have.

“18” – Jeremy Zucker

For those who may know Jeremy Zucker from songs like “you were good to me,” this one couldn’t be any more different. Giving off total “Stacy’s Mom” vibes, listening to this song is sure to improve your mood, and you’ll find yourself singing along in no time at all.

“whiplash” – Alexa Cappelli

Alexa Cappelli first caught my attention with her song “Say Something” making its way into my Spotify Wrapped, and beginning my obsession with her lyrics and voice. Her new song “Whiplash” is absolutely no different. Her vocals are killer as always, and honestly, the lyrics might just be too relatable.

Hopefully, a few of these songs make their way into your playlist, and who knows, maybe into your 2022 Spotify Wrapped. I’m sure the year ahead will bring even more amazing music, bringing with it new artists and songs for me to obsess overā€”and write more articles about.
