Meghan & Harry’s Royal Baby: All Your Questions Answered

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Ever since Meghan and Harry tied the knot last May, the world has been eager for a royal baby.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their pregnancy on October 15, 2018. As if Meghan wasn’t in the public eye enough ever since the announcement, every detail of her outfits, jewelry and whereabouts have been used as hints for any new detail on the upcoming bundle of joy.

The royal family is extremely private in their house behind the palace walls, but between announcements on their social media pages and tidbits from their interviews, we’ve been able to gather some basic details on what we know about the latest royal baby.

Was it a shotgun wedding?

Contrary to popular belief, this is not the fastest a spouse of the royal family has gotten pregnant after a royal wedding. First place goes to Queen Victoria who married Prince Albert on February 10, 1840, and gave birth to their first child 40 weeks and 5 days later. Second place currently goes to Princess Diana who gave birth to Prince William approximately 46 weeks and 5 days after marrying Prince Charles in July of 1981.

When is the baby due?

Kensington Palace announced the baby will arrive in the spring of 2019. However, when having a conversation with a midwife amidst the crowd in England, Meghan revealed the baby will arrive around the end of April or early May.

Where will Meghan Markle give birth?

Her sister-in-law, Catherine, gave birth in the Lindo wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London as did Princess Diana. It’s not for certain that Meghan will deliver the baby in London as they are moving to Windsor, so Frimley Park in Surrey is another option for the Duchess.

Is the baby a boy or a girl?

Serena Williams was the host of Meghan’s extremely private baby shower in New York City, where pictures of the pink party favors were revealed. Although there have been speculations that the upcoming baby is a girl, Meghan revealed through another conversation that she and Harry would like to keep it a secret until the baby is born.

What will the baby’s name be?

In the British Royal Family, names are not easily chosen. If the child is a boy, the options include James, Arthur, Alexander or Philip. As for a girl, there is the inevitable name choice of Diana along with Alice, Mary, Victoria or Elizabeth.

Although the first and middle name are still unknown, the last name will certainly be Sussex. The royal family does not have or need last names; however, when Prince William and Harry were enrolled in school they needed one so they used Wales after their father’s Prince of Wales title.

What is the baby’s royal title?

A few years ago, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth amended the decree to allow HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles to all of Prince Williams’ children, whether a boy or a girl.

However, even with this amendment, Harry’s son or daughter will not have the HRH title as he only passes on his dukedom (yes, that is a word). As for a daughter, she will be titled a lady.

Where will they live?

Unlike his brother who lives in Kensington Palace, Harry and Meghan will reside in a cottage on the Windsor estate. But don’t let the word cottage mislead you—their home will still have plenty of room for their growing family.

Following the relationship of Meghan and Harry from their engagement to their wedding and now their forthcoming royal baby has been so exciting and we can’t wait for all of these questions to be answered once and for all!
