Alright guys, I confess: I fell into the inevitable trap of yet another music festival. Last week, I decided to take a trip to a wonderful place called Buku. Buku Music + Art Project was held March 8th and 9th in New Orleans, LA. It was a lovely mix of both the art and music industry, not only focusing on electronic music, but also intertwining hip-hop culture into the festival as well. For those collegiettes who took the opportunity to attend this festival, I’m most certain we can agree that the entire weekend was a success. For those of you who couldn’t make your way over to N’awlins, hear me out while I fill you in on what you missed.
From the moment my wristband was scanned and I was given the OK to walk into the festival, I immediately felt everyone’s positive energy and excitement for what they were about to experience. Several art installations and a VIP S.S. Buku riverboat later, I found myself swarmed in a crowd of people scurrying to find their favorite artist playing. This year, Buku stepped up their game big time, nearly doubling the amount of artists performing. To give you a little taste of what the line-up looked like this year, artists performing included Kid Cudi, Calvin Harris, Primus 3D, Kendrick Lamar, Passion Pit, Lettuce, Flux Pavillion, Big Gigantic, Major Lazer, Alt-J, Best Coast, Earl Sweatshirt, Nero, and many more.
Aside from the art installations and amazing live performances, I stumbled across quite a few Florida natives with a very eclectic taste in fashion. Unlike most festivals I’ve gone to, Buku atendees had a bit of a twist when it came to what they decided to wear during their time there. Bright neon colors, floral head pieces, and statement-making leotards and leggings seemed to be trending in New Orleans. Accessorizing yourself with a bold floral head piece is an easy way to make yourself pop out in a large crowd, especially if the rest of your outfit is a little on the dull side. For those of you who are a fan of these Lana Del Rey-inspired pieces, you’re in for a treat next week! Be on the lookout for these colorful beauties within the next seven days.
Another trend I noticed was Black Milk’s infamous printed leggings and bodysuits. From skeleton leggings to galaxy printed catsuits, you’re bound to make heads turn if you’re rocking a pair of these. While a full blown catsuit may seem a little too extreme for everyday use, they are completely appropriate for an occasion such as Buku. You could also take it down a notch and match your favorite printed pair of leggings with a simple shirt and comfortable pair of shoes as shown above.
