My Fairy Bramother

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

We grow up both reading and watching fairy tales. A girl in distress goes through a struggle and in the end everything is happily ever after. Being the cynic about love that I am, I enjoyed the entertainment of these stories but never believed in finding my own happy ending. That is until I experienced my own fairy tale. Maybe Walt Disney was on to something all these years? My fairy tale, however, didn’t come in the form of falling in love with a forbidden man like Pocahontas did or being kissed out of a poisonous coma like Snow White or even leaving my glass slipper behind for a Prince to find like Cinderella. Last weekend after years of distress, I was saved by my very own Fairy Bramother.

This wonderful woman came in the form of a Nordstroms sales associate in the lingerie section. For years, this big chested writer has felt like Goldilocks wearing bras that were too big or too small in search of one that was just right. That is where my Fairy Bramother stepped in and found the bra that was just right. Turns out like most girls I was wearing, not only, the wrong size bra but also the wrong style cup.

We all have heard of Oprah’s bra episode but unless you’re lucky enough to get tickets to this hot Chicago show you really don’t have the opportunity to get the help you need. Several bra stores are willing to help you in the process of finding the right one for you but I have never received the help or commitment that my Fairy Bramother at Nordstroms gave me. All you have to do in these stores is find a sales associate either walking the floor or in the dressing room for a sizing. They all have the measurement tape and will tell you your exact bra size based off measurements. I am guilty of panicking when they give you that dreaded number and letter but don’t panic! Wearing the wrong bra is worse for your body than it is for your self esteem, trust me.

Nordstroms not in your price range? Once you’re sized and find the style that fits you like a glove then search online for your “Prince Charming” in your price range. Websites like Bare Necessities (http://www.barenecessities.com/) are there for that exact purpose; to help you find the right bra at the right price. They also offer free shipping on orders of $50 or more. As my mom said, “spending a little more on your bra is okay, you will wear them every day for at least 4 years; you get your money’s worth.”

This Princess has been walking around all week with that extra, and finally fully secured, pep in her step after spending an hour with her Fairy Bramother. I can’t thank her enough for helping me find my “Prince Charming”. In light of Cinderella, I should thank the singing mice for getting me ready and in my Fairy Tale that would be my mom, sorry mom and thank you! Wearing a bra that actually fits for the first time since can remember…I can now say that I have found my happily ever after.
