Thank you Lana Del Rey for your humble personality, oh-so irresistible music, and the uprising trend of the beautifully put together floral crown. After Del Reyâs music video for âBorn To Dieâ was released, these bold crowns have been popping off the fashion radar. To those of us who arenât artistically blessed but hold great love for this fashion statement, there is still hope for us. Andrea Alvarez, a fellow Knight and collegiette herself, has taken the creative route into bringing Sweet Serendipity to its existence.
A tastefully quaint feel is exactly what Alvarez was gearing towards when naming Sweet Serendipity. âI decided on the name Sweet Serendipity because I wanted it to be something light and positive as a representation of the brand itself. The word serendipity means a âhappy accidentâ or a discovery of something enjoyable when you least expect it, which is exactly how I felt when my business was first started,â she explained. This wonderful uncovering occurred when Alvarez couldnât seem to find what she was looking for when searching for these chic Del Rey inspired crowns. She wore her first floral crown at a music festival and it just so happened that everyone caught a glimpse of what she had going on. Capitalizing on the sudden demand for her crowns, Sweet Serendipity was born.
Born and raised with artistic blood in the family, Alvarez is currently a junior majoring in economics and marketing. She admits that although starting a business wasnât something she originally had planned for herself, she decided to take the opportunity to turn this âhappy accidentâ into something beneficial and more concrete. Coming in a variety of colors, sizes, and styles, Alvarez offers her customers a very eclectic selection to choose from when purchasing a crown. Each crown varies in price range from anywhere as low as $12-$24 to $30-$45 depending on what style you decide on. If you already have something in mind for Alvarez to create, she gladly accepts requests as well. A diverse and creative community is welcome!
Granting the fact that Alvarez started this project on a whim three years ago, the meaning behind the creation of Sweet Serendipity is so much more than just an accidental discovery. âI think that the most important thing Iâve learned through my experience thus far is to not be afraid to tell others what you are doing and what you plan to accomplish. By doing just that, I gained support from the organization âI Am That Girlâ and am so grateful I got a chance to meet these girls whose goals are to encourage female empowerment and help them pursue their goals too. Additionally, I wouldnât be where I am today if it werenât for the guidance from the amazing coaches in the Center of Entreprenuerial Leadership in the College of Business. They are doing extraordinary work to help students empower their ideas and business ventures. Because of that, I was selected as a semi-finalist in their annual JOUST Business Plan Competition being held March 22. I know no matter the outcome though, this is just the start of Sweet Serendipity.â You tell âem sister!
