“Tonight we’re going to get real,” Schumer began her comedy show with a warning. She did not disappoint! Like all good comedians her jokes were raunchy, offensive, honest and overall funny.
I had never heard of Amy Schumer before last night’s event. The week before the announcement was made that we would get tickets, I thought about wanting to go to a standup comedy show. I did not know what to expect. The best part of her performance was her ability and decision to be honest about women’s circumstance that many of us can find something to relate to.
Amy was unapologetic about sex and her body image. She introduced us to interesting nicknames for sex acts. Amy compared her body to a lava lamp, described an experience she had in Miami where it seemed like every woman had a hot body, remarked about days where she had all the confidence in the world and others not so much.
While many were focused on the laugh factor, I took note of the real statement she was making about the media and women’s self-image. We can all definitely identify with these thoughts and situations!
